Travel insurance
HI I am going to Italy next week and Columbus Travel has insured me and husband for £46. It pays to shop around each year. Enjoy your cruise.
We went to the Caribbean this year and our insurance quote once we informed them of my son's ITP only increased by £14. We were pleasantly surprised by this. We chose Virgin travel insurance.
I, too, have ITP, as a complication to Lupus and MDS. My platelets have never gone as low as 2, but they did drop to 32. My hematologist put me on Dexamethosone - 40 mg a day for 4 days. The pills brought the platelets up to 167, but in 4 weeks, they were down again to 40. I'm staying between 40 and 60 now.
I had a terrible time with the steroids (stomach pain) and it was disappointing to see the drop. You can't put a price on travel insurance. Anything can happen when you are on vacation. My husband and I cruise often, and travel insurance is always our first consideration. We've had to cancel many trips over the past years due to sickness (me) right before the trip. The price of travel insurance is based on age plus the price of the trip. There are several agencies that offer travel insurance. First, ask your travel agent which they would recommend. Then, so some "shopping" on your own. But anyone with a pre-existing condition - or even a healthy person - should always take travel insurance. We even took them with airline tickets, which is not very costly, and we got all of our money back after we got a doctor's note. I cannot stress strongly enough that travel insurance is a must!! Most also cover family members as well, in case one of them gets sick and you need to be home. No one is immune to sickness or accidents. Always be prepared!
Hi,
Please don't take any steroids....in India there is an homeopathic medicine...I can send you those homeopathic medicine....it doesn't have any side effects...
It is not recommended that medicines are passed onto others. I know you say they are homeopathic but it's not recommended. I tried homeopathic once for thyroid and became ill. When one's body is used to one kind of med - anything different can have effects, not all positive.
Hi Helen,
I use Insure and Go and they've been good for me. Please remember the advice for ITP sufferers, take out a year long policy and not just the single trip cover.
regards.
