MY GRANDDAUGHTER WAS DIAGNOSED WITH ITP A FEW MONTHS AGO. I AM GETTING A LITTLE MORE COMFORTABLE WITH IT. HER PLATELET COUNT LAST WEEK WAS 11000 AND THIS WEEK IS 15000. SHE HAS A COUPLE SILVER DOLLAR SIZE BRUISES ON HER ABDOMEN THAT HAVE KNOTS AND I AM CONCERNED. I CALLED THE ON CALL HEMATOLOGIST LAST NIGHT AND SHE SAID IT WAS FINE JUST WATCH FOR ACTIVE BLEEDING. HAS ANYONE EXPERIENCED THIS

17 MONTHS OLD WITH ITP
Hi No problem. Children can develop ITP and often it will disappear in 6 months or so, but of course no guarantees. You just wait and watch. As to count, many live normal lives with low counts and take no medication. Providing they are not bleeding, just keep an eye on her. The bruising can look terrible but it will go but if in doubt, call your medic. I know many doctors will say it is worse for the parents or grandparents than it is for the child. They will just get on with it and leave the worrying to you!!
I guess your in the states, but it is the same all over. The PDSA will I trust give you the same answer. Good luck from the UK.
The Bruising with the knots are hematomas and pretty consistent with anyone who has ITP. Sorry she is going through this and hope it will resolve soon!
