hes been in ICU for over 2 months now . he got a bad infection on his ankle after breaking it {mersa} so they removed his leg above the knee. while hes been in there he got corna but beat that. Now they have taken him off all sedative meds but Mike's not responding. We need brain activity, so im gonna fry bacon and take it up to hospital and let him smell it. I'm gonna go play his favorite music real loud and lighten up his room and keep yelling his name. Does anyone have any suggestions that i can do to help my brother wake up and respond ?

Your brother just needs time, he’s got 2 months worth of sedation and opiates to clear from his body. You will find lots of posts on here on how long that can take. Hearing is the last sense to go so play his favourite music, talk to him, play him recordings of favourite people who maybe can’t get to the hospital.

It was nearly 2 months before I started to come round and become fully aware.. I wasn’t particularly pleasant when I came round and wouldn’t have welcomed being shout at.

I am sorry to hear about all the illness and suffering for your brother and your family. My brother was critically Ill fromFlu and put on life support when all his organs began to fail. After 2 days on a ventilator we were told he was going to die. He had 2 young children at the time. We were so fortunate that an ECMO machine and bed was available as ECMO gave his lungs time to rest and recover while the machine did the work of his lungs. As Rhyl says your brother has all the sedatives from weeks in hospital to deal with in his system while his body is trying to recover. Do talk to him play his favourite music or whatever he likes to hear. It took my brother a full month before he started to be responsive. It’s very hard I know first hand pre CoVId from visiting my brother every day for months at thw hospital. 4 years in my brother is fit and well. Remain hopeful is the best advice we were given anf give to you.

I was in an induced coma due to pneumonia and septic shock - I don’t remember anything while I was asleep but I had my friends by my bedside everyday and I honestly think without them I wouldn’t have made it - they talked to me, made jokes and played my favourite music! It’s tough and he will need all your support when he wakes up so keep the faith and try to keep it nice and calm - it’s a very scary experience when you wake up - I was not myself and very delirious!
