My dad is going through something similar. He has been in ICU since the Jan 3rd, he was on a vent and now a trach. Every time doctors reduced his sedation he gets agitated and they keep giving him sedation. Doctors think he might have brain damage because he is not responding to commands but when family members talk to him he is able to blink. Anyone else going through this. Please help!

COVID and Sedatation
It’s fairly usual - I don’t know why all the docs say your loved one isn’t behaving normally - there is no normal or standard behaviour. If they are really concerned about brain damage it can be checked with Ct or MRi scan
I feel for you, my dad has been on a vent/ trachy for almost 6 weeks now. They’ve sedated him and resedated him so many times I’ve lost count!! How many days has it been since he was fully off sedation? The first time my dad was off it took 9 days for any major response! We are now on day 4 of him coming off sedation and his now moving his arms and legs. Have they done a CT scan? X
My husband struggled 52 days on high meds. Finally they used anti anxiety meds to balance him and they stopped high sedation. Then took him another 31 days to come out of coma once meds were out of his system. I was told he would never recover and that he wasn't there anymore! Glad I didn't give up? He is now awake and cognitively all there!!
