Hi all my my dad was meant to being having his vent removed today but had a phone call to say he didn't handle comming off the sedation very well, they've now told me they are sending him to another hospital a hour away because the current one is overwhelmed with Covid patients, they've assured me he's been selected because he's the most stable out of most patients but I'm worried sick? I feel the hospital he was at has very good care and it's close to us. Has anyone else had this issue and did it cause further problems? Thank you.
Tranfering Hospital.: Hi all my my dad was meant to... - ICUsteps
Tranfering Hospital.
Hi, My husband was air lifted from our local hospital when it became overwhelmed as he was considered to be one of the most stable patients. I was worried at first, but took the fact that he was considered one of the most stable to be a positive. The transportation did set him back for 24 hours but he soon recovered and has made slow but steady progress ever since. As I am not allowed to visit the extra distance has made no difference and the hospital where he is now has a wonderful family liaison team who ring me daily. I feel that my husband has benefitted from the move and I really hope that your Dad does too.
Thanks so much for that it's a relief, I've spoken with the new hospital he was stable down there and yes my family have also said that should be a positive he's the most stable to make the move, the docs are just doing some assessments and they will give me an update later so finger crossed it's all so stressful everyday a struggle I'm sure you can relate! Take care
As @Bobbinlady1 said - if they didn’t think he’d survive - he wouldn’t be being transferred- it’s sort of cold comfort. They will be doing what they feel Is best for everyone. 😊
Every bit of info really helps me I don't know nothing about any of this it's all so strange it's so good to speak to people with knowledge ! Thanks
hi! I think there are two parts to your post. I had the same issue , in terms of coming off the vent, as your dad. They tried to bring me off on day 5, my families hopes were raised and then it failed and I remained on until day 9, heaping fear and worry on my wife and family. Re transfers; I don't think anyone would want to choose that but hope you take re-assurance from Bobbinlady and Sepsur's comments. My view of my whole experience is that there comes a time when you have to trust the experts and their systems. In your shoes I would still be worried though, as there is no escaping it, but trusting in them can mitigate some of the depth of worry. Wishing you , your dad and your family the very best!! cheers, pete
Thanks for responding, dad settled in well they got him to open his eyes and respond to question for the first time, they've changed his sedation and hope to get a better response as the respiratory side of things have still been improving so it's just a waiting game.🙏🙏
So pleased to see that the transfer went well and the initial signs are very positive. In my experience recovery is a long journey and there are likely to be numerous obstacles along the way. So try to stay strong and remember just how far your dad has come already.
Honestly couldn't of put it better! Thank you yes Its unbelievable how much you learn going through all of this, he's stable breathing well the vents just helping him along but he has a few more issues to over come still has an infection. They keep having to change his sedation so yes it will take time I just hope and pray he keeps moving forward. Thank you
