He is on dialysis for his kidneys and vent at 100% for lungs he does have fluid and pneumonia followed with a staph infection to too it all off... anyone else have info on not responding and just some general expense? He is unable to get a cat scan cause he is unable to be off the 100% vent to which to a mobile to be transported to the scan. Thanks for any advise!

Covid icu no response
Hi Ashleyjo5 and welcome
If you search this site for Covid19, you will come across several stories of your fathers position from the 1st wave.
I'm really sorry you are going through it, it's a traumatic roller coaster for you. As your dad has had kidney issues, they do tend to be slower to respond and be alert. He has been very heavily sedated and it takes it's time to come out of the system.
It's quite common to pick up infections in ITU, my husband picked up several whilst he was ventilated with covid in the 1st wave .
His Kidney issues thankfully were mild, but it took him over a week to start to come round.
Please take comfort many Covid survivors have been where your dad is now.
Hi @Ashleyjo5
I took 11 days to come around properly although I was responsive before then ( we are all different) different people respond differently - without labouring the point. Dialysis will slow down the body’s ability to process out the paralysing agents used to sedate us. Some people have unique tolerances to chemicals. Depending on the various treatments that your Dad has endured, a person maybe placed into a deeper state of unconsciousness - if he were proned for instance.
Infections might slow down his normal healing time too, and @Fenharm is right / infections in ICU are fairly common because we have no immune system to fight them off. I got CMV, VRE, MSSA, EBV, HHV6 & glandular fever whilst in ICU, I’d come in with strep A, avian flu, double pneumonia, MOF, and in septic shock.
I hope he shows some signs of improvement soon, for you.
It has taken my mum a good 2 weeks to come round she has had her trachy out this morning finally. They said to us it takes much longer if the kidneys aren’t working for the sedation to get out of the system keep hopeful xxx
Thank you for sharing that makes me hopeful hear you mom took a little while to come out of the sedation too... today the nurses said he had some grimacing on his face when they were bathing him and cleaning his mouth! So that’s movement we didn’t have before!
How is your Dad doing now? I hope for your dad and for you there has been a positive outcome and incredibly sorry it there wasn't. x
