6 years ago I had sepsis pneumonia multi organ failure etc. I was in an induced coma for 15 days and in hospital over 6 weeks. Ever since I have had most of the symptoms covid patients are talking about now. Shortage of breath extreme fatigue ptsd etc. I wonder if covid patients will suffer as long as I have. I think they probably will and someone should be explaining the possibility

Covid symptoms
I quite agree with you @bunnyrabbit1234, after suffering septic shock & MOF - following double pneumonia & avian flu , 4 yrs ago. I contracted severe ARDS, intubated & dialysis for 7weeks followed by a further 2-3 weeks dropping down to trachy, CPAP, peep & nebuliser. In fact I still had nebuliser on ward - over 90 days after initial admission.
Critical care has legacies that are not peculiar to COVID. Weakness, fatigue, cognitive dysfunction, delirium, muscle waste, neuropathy & myopathy.
My heart is affected, my lungs are affected, 3yrs after ICU, I had a pleural effusion of left lung ( 3 litres of blood was slopping around a pocket around my lung.
I have weakness, joint pain and fatigue on occasion. Much less so than at first - a week after discharge, getting dressed would take me back to bed for an hour it was so exhausting.
Thank you for your reply sepsur. Yes I have all of the above still 6 years on. I was 60 years old at the time luckily I was able to finish at work. Very often I will go to bed very early (7or8 oclock) because I just can't hold myself up in a chair any longer. If I do a bit of weeding in the garden I am struggling for breath with in minutes and my legs hurt from bending. I have decided it is not going to get any better so have learnt to live with it
It would be a naive & misleading statement to say that we all improve at the same rate & too the same extent - a contributing factor is that I am 10yrs your junior so I mend slightly ( slightly) quicker.
At the beginning of lockdown our group was determined not to lose the fitness we had all spent so long trying to gain, so we set up a zoom exercise group - we have a couple sessions a week now. There are some taster videos on our website. icustepschester.org/exercis...
We also do 2 x yoga sessions. We have a lovely instructor who takes us through an great routine each week. None of us had done yoga - what all of us quickly realised was how much our breathing improved.
You would be welcome to join us - just email us.
Myself and my wife have been walking quite a lot. Depending on the weather of course ( to hot to cold to wet to dry) you get it but always pay for it afterwards. Anyway thanks for the offer but never really been into that kind of thing. I had joined a curling team a few months before lock down really enjoyed that. Can't see that happening again hay hoo
