My husband was off ventilator for 2 days now today they put him back on the ventilator again and he has a bit of tempersture. Does this usually happen when you are off ventilator for some days? Is it part of the weaning process? I requested a call from the doctor as I am really worried

It can be. They took along time to wean me - I would be put back on what had come before for a few hours, days and so on CPAP then PEEP , then CPAP, then PEEP. It would appear ‘Covid’ patients are taking proportionally a long time to fully wean
Yes, my husband was on and off the vent for quite a few weeks while weaning. Sometimes he did really well for a day or two, but then needed more support again. He also had a couple of infections during that time and a temperature, so that made him more tired. The breathing muscles are so weak. At least once after being off the vent he went back up to needing 40% oxygen. I thought he would never get off! Always two steps forward, one step back. Frustrating and worrying.
But after 59 days in ICU he has now been completely off oxygen for over a week and he was moved to the respiratory ward.
It happened to me. I was originally on CPAC for 1 week then I deteriorated again so put into an induced coma & ventilated and transferred to a larger hospital. After 5 days they attempted coming off the ventilator but I became distressed so they said they will try again in a few days. They tried again 3 days later and I was doing well they removed the tube and used a CPAC hood. I was fine during the day but at night my oxygen levels dropped and they had to sedate me and had to be put back on the ventilator. After a further 12 days they tried again & this time it was a successful. The interesting thing was I showed positive COVID for 3 weeks! When the successful attempt to take me off the ventilator was when I got a negative COVID result.
I hope you get reassurances from the above and you get some answers from the doctor x
The same happened to me. A few times they tried to wean me, my temperature shot up and when they couldn't control it, I was put back on sedation and ventilator. It took a few times before I settled and to be honest I was so glad to be sedated again because the high temp made me feel so ill.
I remember at one point being convinced that they'd put me on a coffee drip (because caffeine lowers temperature). The nurse at the bottom of my bed was pouring coffee from a filter jug into the drip bag ready to be fitted. The coffee came from a coffee machine built into the foot board of the bed. I kept touching the buttons by mistake with my feet and got distressed because I thought I was going to get hot Java poured all over my legs, and I prefer Colombian!
