My partner very confused
Have a read of this link. ICUdelirium is common but not funny at the time, for anyone.
John
I understand how you must be feeling. I was visiting my brother every day in critical care and ICU when he was slowly waking up from an induced coma after having sepsis. The booklet Sepsur referred you to really helps as it explains the symptoms and why this happens. . There is also a very good post from an ICU specialist that explains about the different drugs used when people are put into a coma on mechanical ventilation. It is frightening to see someone you love behaving out of character and it made me despair too but please be reassured that this is temporary and is a result of the range of medication being used. Your partner will come out of this but it does take time. I can only say this 5 months on. This website gave me reassurance when there was no one to ask. I am so grateful for the help from this community.
Best wishes.
Hi John
This is the link I mentioned which explains about waking up from a coma. As Sepsur said it’s really important to keep talking to reassure your partner. I did this every day with my brother.

I'm very humbled by you all I have a much better understanding it's been a long couple of weeks as you all know thank you so much
It's getting my head round it all now also I've lost track of time
Hello I’m so sorry that you and your partner are going through this. My dad had this in March after being in a coma for 2 weeks. It took a couple of weeks for it to go completely but it does go. The hormones and normal rhythm of the brain has been interrupted so it’s very normal. They gave my dad a vitamin drip including B12 and that helped hugely. Take care.
Hi Johnathan yes it does. It takes some time. My dad took a couple of weeks. The rule of thumb is that for every day in ITC you need about a week to recover. If you can ask for the hospital Psychologist to visit your partner and ask for a vitamin and B12 drip. It made a huge improvement to my dad. Hope you are ok too ? It’s rough with a partner in hospital.
