How many Covid relatives here?

Marcita profile image
26 Replies

I've realized that since I've joined this community some days ago there was a big wave of new members. I'm guessing at least 50 people. I'm wondering if y'all here because of Covid?

I'm sorry we had to meet each other in such circumstances 🤧

Yep I joined because my husband is Covid , I felt really alone hence my post yesterday . Reading others stories and listening to the strength and hope they have makes me feel ashamed that I can’t always keep myself together . But from what I’ve read and what I’ve heard everyone is on a journey and they are all different , it’s being brave enough to take the first step . Praying for miracles for everyone going through this x

Hi there, so sorry to hear about your hubby, but I’m sure you will find some comfort on here. I’m a new member on here but have been part of an ICUSteps group for 5 years, just knowing that it’s not just you going through something, I think will be a great help to you. 🙏🙏🙏🙏 for your husband and his speedy recovery

Like everyone else seems up and own really . Seems to have a week of improvements then his condition becomes static . He’s on low oxygen and vents are low they aren’t too worried about his lungs now . He’s had a tracheotomy fitted two weeks now and has sedation weaned from Friday doing ok , just very bad with the delirium . He’s basically only sleeping a hr or two a day!

My dads main problems seems to be his kidneys he’s back on dialysis and think that is what slowing him down. He also has a second infection which isn’t causing to many problems and a clot in his jugular vein from one of his lines . He’s very swollen and they are tuning out of options where to put lines which is very worrying . All we have to do is stay positive and hope ! X

Aw bless, great that there's progress there too and the ups and downs are a nightmare.

Dad had his trachy on friday, seemed to be doing ok as they started weaning sedation and put him on cpap mode saturday night but then oxygen requirement went up to 100% Sunday and his crp markers have been rising so a secondary infection in the chest. Antibiotics have started, I just hope they work.

Today at 1pm his oxygen was at 60% so I'm hoping this a sign of progress although doctor yesterday was just intent on telling me he isn't getting better even though we have come along way over 4 weeks and this could just be another small blip in his road to recovery?

Stay positive I find the nurses are a lot more positive and doctors give you worst case , he’s still here and fighting that is the main thing !

My dad also has a hospital infection but doesn’t seem to be affecting him so much now he’s on the antibiotics. It’s a long bumpy road but hope is all we have right now.

My dad is a fighter and loves his family as am sure yours does too . Sending big hugs xx

My dad is in ICU 4 weeks now & making

slow progress - tracheostomy fitted & weaning has begun from the ventilator.

A few complications due to having contracted the virus in hospital during recovery before discharge after having a triple heart bypass & new heart valve.. , Covid pneumonia followed by a cardiac arrest .

Kidneys have dipped a few times & suffering from delirium . Numerous infections also .

Lots of downs & small ups along the way

praying for everyone in this group for there loved once to make a recovery! 🙏🏻❤️

Marcita, well I for one have not joined because of Covid, thankfully. I have just found out about this app/community through my local ICUSteps Tees group, of which I’ve been a member for 5 years

Hi all,

I joined for COVID too, but I’ve been one of the lucky ones and my dad has now stepped down from ICU. I just wanted to come one and give you all some hope!

The doctors and nurses continually told us Dad wasn’t getting better, he was getting worse etc. Progress wasn’t as they’d expect (there is no expectation with covid as its so new!! ) he was on dialysis, heart rhythm problems, oxygen up and down constantly, prone positioned regularly, blood pressure high and HR going low out of the blue.

When they removed the ventilator it took him 4 days to wake up. When he woke up he was delirious for days, thought he was abroad, thought we had abandoned him and they were deliberately depriving him of food and water. He couldn’t swallow at all and had profound weakness.

He is now on day 5 out of ICU. He was allowed thin liquids yesterday so finally had water and the change in him since then has been remarkable. So much more lucid, understands why he’s there and how long he’s been there. Today he passed swallow test for smooth soft food so had some homemade soup. He is chatting and upbeat but absolutely exhausted and so so weak. Physio working hard with him but expect it will be a long road before he can stand or walk. But he is alive! So please don’t give up hope!!

Sending love and prayers to you all xxx

Your story is not so dissimilar to my brother’s although as your dad is able to have some normal food he is a bit ahead of my bro. 😀

He was in ICU for 91 - at times we didn’t know whether he would make it and life for those weeks was surely tough. He was moved to the renal ward yesterday as his kidneys are not working (yet).

I joined this group whilst he was in ICU and found soooooo much information on here (helpful if you are not the patient’s NoK and only get limited info). I wanted to know everything about his treatment, ICU, who the Drs were and what were they doing for him etc etc but that information was limited to me as just his sister. This group is a mine of information and full of inspirational cases.

Keep positive folks.

Yes I joined due to my husband going into ITU on a ventilator on the 26th March, he is the longest patient in ITU in the hospital. The roller coaster of emotions , the hurt, terror and torture we are experiencing is horrendous . It's so distressing seeing your loved one so vulnerable , you feel so helpless , they feel you have abandoned them. I pray we all have success stories from this vile disease. xx

My mom spent around 35 days at the ICU. And she's much better. Dunno if she's the longest covid patient though.

Yes, I too joined because of covid19. I want to write more to all but depression ++ Sincere apologies but sent with a strong hug and love xx
