I went to hospital yesterday to pick up my Dad's dirty washing but when nurse came out she informed me that there had been a mix up and his clothing had gone home with another patient's relative! As in many cases right now money is tight for us as on reduced income and I spent over £150 on those very clothes so are the hospital liable? I know they say they are not responsible for belongings but they gave my Dad's clothing to wrong person. This is just one example of how communication amid this lockdown breaks down. Normally I would go up at visiting time and take it all away with me. Apparently they are being brought back by this relative of other patient but if not I am not letting it lie. Thoughts?
Are hospital responsible for this?: I went to... - ICUsteps
Are hospital responsible for this?
I totally understand. It's expensive having to buy PJs, dressing gown etc if a loved one is suddenly taken into hospital. Occasionally an error is made and dirty clothes go in someone else's locker,or more frequently get swept up with the laundry. I think it's a hazard of hospital life, but no less frustrating.
Why not wait and see if the other relative returns the clothes?
I’m sure things will be sorted out in time - I’d try and let things run there natural course
A member of staff went to their house and collected . The ward has just 6 out of a maximum of 15 patients and my Dad has said it is very empty so how this happened is beyond me. I can't do much for him and havent seen him now in 5 weeks when he was still in ICU so I am probably more sensitive than normal but I just cannot afford to keep buying stuff as well as pay his bills.
