Sedation ???
Talk to the nurses and doctors… If you have a concern with pain or discomfort for your father awesome what medication can be used to help with this… Sometimes we use ketamine drips in the ER and ICU… Propofol or diprovan is another drug but it's a short term for sedation If he has kidney and liver failure that might be the reason nobody's using anything but it doesn't hurt to ask OK… So your father's going through this my sincere apologies it's tough on everybody… Read up on post sepsis syndrome so you can have an understanding of what some people go through post ICU Best of luck to your family and your dad
FiannaWarrior my friend was put into an unnecessary medically induced coma after a hernia repair and expansion of the esophagus. She was under for 10 days. She had a full blown stroke while sedated and when she got home, she couldn't walk, barely crawl. She's now walking but some days she can keep all her food down and other days she throws it ALL up.
Hello there first let me say I know exactly what you are going through and you have my deepest sympathy in icu the drs know what they are doing although at the time you think you know best this is how I felt when it was me in your shoes 1year ago I would go as far to say I was angry with drs which is understandable it's our loved ones in the bed not theirs my uncle had sepsis then he had multiple organ failure he was sedated heavily and this was their choice I was against it as every time they was stopping it he was coming round but he got icu delirium which was horrific to watch so sedation was the only option the eye twitching is a good sign and you might feel silly but talk to your dad hold his hands ask him to blink or even a hand squeeze it won't be a big squeeze maybe just a tiny jerk so really focus I used to speak to my uncle and he would respond try to avoid sedation unless really needed I wish you and your family all the best I really do xxx
