Prostap....

Hi, am preparing for a Hysterectomy and have started 6 months of Prostap injections to put me in a induced Menopause! Side effects of this are Insomnia (bad), numbness in my feet and some hot flushes, mainly at night. I have had two Prostap injections, will the symptoms settle down or what!!!! However, I am pain free with no heavy periods (and clots) so I can cope with the side effects until this is sorted out. I also have PCOS and have had 25 years of all these problems and also unable to have kids.

Hi hun my niece is having the same and just had her third injection and is seeing the consultant today before her op. I believe 3 injections wont leave any long term effects. I had 5yrs of these injections which has left me with life changing symptoms. 3 mths should be fine. X

Hi I have just had my 7th Prostrap injection. Last week I had a scan - I originally had 4 large fibroids. However one nearest my bowel has grown so much now 10.9cms that they couldn't get past it to see the others, had an internal scan. I was led to believe they would shrink my fibroids by bringing on the menopause. Now I am waiting to hear form my consultant as radiographer said I need an MRI scan to see whats happening. I do not want to stay on these injections as like many others I cannot sleep. I also suffer from acne. I also have to take 2 norethisterone to stop me bleeding. So sorry to say that the injections haven't helped me. At least as you say no heavy periods with clots. All the best wishes to you x

Hi Alison2D, thanks for the reply. Sorry your fibroids have grown when they are supposed to shrink with the induced menopause! lol. I too, am suffering insomnia with the injections and it is a nightmare and my feet and toes are numb too, occasionally hot flush mainly at night lol. I dont suffer from acne, but did years ago with PCOS. I am seeing my gyny on 20 May and having a scan to see if my fibroids have shrunk or what they he will give me a date for the Op. After my first injection I bled so heavily I thought I would have to got to hospital it was like a tap, so the GP gave me an injection and Transemic acid tabs, which eased it, I bled for 7 days v heavy and large clots, my IUD came out amongst it all, sorry to be blunt, but since then NOTHING. My side effects of prostap is a small price to pay for what I endured before, thanks for the info,. x

Hello FibroidRobot

I don't know anything about the injections you mention but I'm going through the menopause after a hysterectomy and struggle to sleep.

A few things I do are :

No caffeine at all

Increased exercise so I'm physically tired

Wear an activity tracker so I can see I have actually had SOME sleep even when I feel I haven't

Stay in bed and listen to music/audiobook/podcast (on earphones) which helps "turn off" my head if that makes sense.

Hope you feel better soon

Best wishes

Anna
