4 month post op question

Hi ladies

I hope you’re having a pain free day. I just had a question about my recovery and wondered if anyone would be able to advice or give me some guidance.

I had a pretty textbook recovery from my full hysterectomy, I had my post-op follow up and everything was totally fine. In the last week or so where my left ovary (the bad one) used to be, I’ve had pain and throbbing. I also feel like my insides have gone a bit weak, and every now and then it feels like I’ve needed to wee a little bit without warning. This has never happened to me before. I also have constipation which I don’t usually and I need to wee really frequently. I have recently gone back to work and I walk to and from work which has been giving me groin strain and I need to take smaller steps than usual.

Does this sound like normal healing? Or maybe something to see someone about? I think maybe it’s the physical exercise that might have irritated something that was healing nicely before. Any information or advice would be very gratefully received! Thank you! Xx

I am 19 months post TAH/BSO. To me what you describe sounds pretty normal. Your body is still recovering. I still sometimes get an odd feeling where my largest fibroid was to the right of my pelvis. It takes 12 months for the body to recover from surgery and hysterectomy is a major disruption for your body. However I know how worrying the recovery phase can be and your gp will understand if you go along for a check up. I still ask my gp to check that my fibroids haven’t come back as now and then I convince myself I can feel lumps again! Four months isn’t that long, be kind to yourself, try not to worry and make an appointment with your gp. Good luck.

Thank you that is so reassuring to hear about your experience. And although a lot has happened in 4 months you’re right it isn’t long in the grand scheme of things. I’ll make a routine appointment with the gp but will try not to worry in the meantime. Thanks so much!

Hi Ruby - you need to get yourself checked by yr GP - any sudden unexplained pain needs to be checked out asap. It may be nothing but better to be safe.

Wishing you well xx

Thanks for sharing your experience too, it sounds like we’re in a similar place in our journey, I had mine in July. I’ve just booked an appointment with the gp, going to ask to be tested for a bladder infection, that would make a lot of sense. Wishing you all the best in your recovery x

hi

I’m nee to this site,

I’m 15 weeks post TAH & BSO due to endometriosis & 2 very large ovarian cysts & lots of small ones,

I’m a lot better than I was but got sent home a day & half after my operation no information about what to do or what to expect, I went in to full on menopause, no sleep, whole body aches, back pain like never before, hot & cold flashes, mood swings ect ect,

I’m 52 but feel about 92 I have now gone on hrt patches but still unsure if they are 100% working,

Still a lot of twinges in my stomach & look 6 months pregnant scar is very tight and pain in my pelvis,

I work as a cook in a dementia home and work alone in the kitchen, I work 12 hour days constantly on my feet I do everything and no break as no time, now is coming busy time with Christmas, bonfire night & Halloween, buffets & party’s as well as cooking and cleaning,

I’m not sure how much longer I need off work as I know I’m going straight back in to 12 hour shifts alone,

Any advice guys xx

Sorry addressed this to Ruby on original thread but should be to you Debsandes !

Well done on getting this far, it's a tough old road isn't it. Everyone is different and recovers at a different pace but I can certainly relate to what you are describing. It's good that you have started HRT and hopefully that has helped with the aching joints, and the hot flushes.

I had an SAH almost 4 years ago now and I would say it took a year or more before I was fully recovered from the op. Having a heavy dragging feeling in my tummy and it being swollen which was always worse by the end of the day went on for months and months - your body has a huge amount of healing and sorting out to do, and it just takes time. The good news is that it does get better and one day you will realise you are not getting those feelings any more.

Going back to a physical job such as yours will be very hard. Can you do a phased return ? If you can't, then stay off work for another few weeks. You need to listen to your body and look after your own health. It's a major op to recover from and should not be underestimated. But you will continue to improve and gradually feel stronger and better. As long as my recovery was, I don't regret having the op at all and 4 years on I am leaner fitter and happier than ever before. Be kind to yourself and good luck xx

hi louiseD1

Thank you so much for your reply, it’s so good to know I’m not going mard or a mard Arse,

I’m bk at my drs Monday, the pain in my lower right stomach is getting worse dull ache constantly worse at night, my hot flushes have slowed down a lot but the aches of my body & back are just as bad as ever, I was quite flexible before but now I can’t even touch my toes just about my knees, lol, memory is shocking, I went for my operation at 52yrs of age & I’ve come out feeling 72years of age, I’ve put over 4st on & im only 5”2’

I can go bk to work on phased hours but I know if someone rings in sick from another home no one will be there to help or cover my hours so I will be stuck there on my own for the full hours, I’ve seen it happen with new staff ect, & we have a lot of buffets plus normal meal times to do over Christmas it’s so hard going, I cook alone for 59 residents breakfast, dinner& tea plus tea trolleys with home Meade cake twice a day & a supper trolly,

Sorrry to moan on & on it’s all I seem to do lately I’m sick of hearing myself,

I just want to stop hurting & be me again happy silly me not the old moaning woman who I now see it’s like I’m in a bubble & I can see me but I can’t get to me as I’m too sore, I’ve forgot how to get out or I just can’t be bothered to try,

I will shut up now but thank you so so much xxx
