INR ok, but now Diarrhea: Hi again... - Hughes Syndrome A...
INR ok, but now Diarrhea

Watch that INR as you will be absorbing less Vitamin K. Apple sauce and bananas are nice warfarin neutral ways to slow the gut down. Of course your gut may not be well enough to tolerate even those. But do watch that INR. Have extra tests run. 9 times out of 10 my INR goes up when my bowels are loose. But then there is that 1 time in 10 when it does not. Don't try to guess. Have extra coag tests run.
But then . . . Do you mean that you now have chronic loose bowels which you suspect is caused by the warfarin? Or have you got a tummy bug? My comments above would relate to a tummy bug. I have never know warfarin to alter my gut's behavior. But we're all different.

Hi Gina
Thanks for your comments, they are very helpful. I believe its a tummy bug which i had once before and I have been taking Warfarin for 8 years now. I went to the Pharmacy and he told me not to take imodium as it may upset my Warfarin, but my wife says she is sure i took it last time. I self test my INR and the last two days its been pretty normal again, so fingers crossed.
The brat diet is considered an excellent diarreha helper.
Bananna, Rice, Apple, toast.. make sure it is a regular apple, as apple sauce and juice can make it worse..
My pharmacist tells me imodium is OK to take with warfarin and so far on the odd occasion I have had to take it it has not altered my INR.
I have a friend who has had loose bowel movements ever since taking warfarin, she says she has got used to it.
As you say we are all different.
Thank you and its very helpful
