I fly frequently short haul and take my aspirin as I do anyway, with the addition of surgical stockings, but you do need specific advice just for you, from your specialist. I believe if I flew long haul I would need a jab! Hope this helps. It is sometimes not advisable to take flights but in the main many of us do. Mary F x

Hi hon

I think it's best to take advice from a doctor on flying, long distance flights may require clexane/heparin injections.

I personally will not fly again without clexane, and yes taking meds is ok, as long as you don't mind the airport staff checking everything. A prescription repeat forma and letter from gp, not necessary, but makes it easier.

I hope you're feeling ok today.

Take care gentle hugs love Sheena xxxxx :-) :-) :-)

Hi. I'm glad you asked this question as the answers given so far have got me thinking!! I was told 10 years ago by my rheumatologist, while has now retired, that I shouldn't fly again. I'm wondering whether with correct medicating this could actually be possible. We bought a Motorhome and so luckily have enjoyed many European trips. But maybe I could fly now further afield!

Thanks and hoping you are able to fly off and enjoy a wonderful holiday!

I recently came back from a trip to Australia, also taking in Singapore & Hong Kong. I contacted the authorities in each country in advance to get the required permission to take my drugs into their country. I had to take 2 carry on with my meds. (DON'T put them in your case in the hold, in case the cases go missing!!) and amongst my meds. were both morphine and barbiturates. As a result, no problems anywhere.

I am on Warfarin, so my specialist told me that I did not need to take anything else, but did recommend compression stockings - either TEDS or Flight Socks. You can get made to measure support stockings from your doctor under prescription. I have these are they are far, far better then the other two I mention.

I hope this helps and have a great holiday !

Please email me on kate.hindle@hughes-syndrome.org and I will send you the latest copy for the new website on flying guidelines which has just been approved by our charity's medical advisors - it's five pages long which is why I can't post it here.
