Bruising...? I have woken up with a pretty nasty black eye for no reason....

Hi, has anyone else suffered this? Is it a sign of blood too thick or too thin? I take 300mg of aspirin daily and have done for the last 10 yrs or so. I would have got random bruises on my legs before and not remembered bumping into anything but looking back at the last month or so I seem to bruising a lot and very dark purple bruises. Now this morning I have a lovely black eye and look like I have been in a nasty fight..... Any clues or is this just something that happens ....?

Hi there, I think we all tend to bruise more easily on our medications. However I think if it is happening a bit more... and with the latest thing. I would be tempted to go for a quick check up with the GP if they are in the knowledge with all this, and also perhaps an earlier appointment with your consultant. I hope you don't wake up with a matching set tomorrow! MaryF x

Hi hon

I think as Mary says I would go get this checked out. Especially if you are noticing the bruising is worse! I rub my eyes and end up with a shiner, I'm on warfarin though. From what I understand aspirin does increase tendency to bruise!

Hope you feeling ok today

Take care gentle hugs love Sheena xxxx :-) :-) :-)

I have all sorts of bruises that appear and disappear. For example, last week I have one in the palm of my hand that just 'appeared'. Next morning it had gone again. Some stay for a few days, some seem to go within a day. Are yours like this ?? I only ask, as I asked my specialist about them and he did not give me an answer. So I asked my GP and she just she just shrugged her shoulders. So I would be interested to know if you get a definitive answer from a health professional.

For the record, I am on 18 mg of Warfarin a day.

Hi bruising can also be a sign of a low platelet/red cell count, worth getting your full blood count checked by your gp

Hi Jani,

Thanks for your comments. As I am on whole host of medications I have to have regular blood tests and, so far, this has not been found. However, I will ask next time I go.

Hi Kentish man,

I get these bruises on my hands, I just assume its cos of the warfarin and they are small bleeds that reabsorb quicker than an impact bruise.

I hope that makes sense cos I got brain fug!

That could well be it. Thanks Sheena. As it happens, I have brain fog. It blots out my short term memory. I can, vaguely, remember what happened yesterday but the day before not a thing. Yet I can remember masses of things from my youth. Both crazy and frustrating.

Take care,

Regards,

Pete

Hi Pete

Totally with you on the brain fog, very frustrating, reading and re-reading the same few pages of a book, when I used to be able to leave a book and go back to it, aaaargh! I loved to read!!! :-(

I take plaquenil as well as load of other meds so platelets checked pretty regularly!

Take care gentle hugs love Sheena xxxx :-) :-) :-)

Hi, tg I didn't wake up with a matching eye. Got some great looks all day though... Di d manage to get to gp tonight & he has done a blood test to check the platelets as jani says. He has said it may just be part of Hughes though or could be that we need to look at change of meds.

Kentish man, yr bruises sound bit diff to mine. Mine tend to be pretty purple and take some time to go away. They would be more classic bruises. Perhaps as Sheena says yours may be due to warfarin. I hope u get an answer it's so frustrating when u feel like the docs aren't listening.

Thanks everyone, will let u know if anything strange appears in the blood test.

Have you got a diagnose of APS (Sticky Blood)? All people here (on this site) have this illness. We try to help eachother and are not medical trained.

I answered your question 1 minutes ago. Now you are on a very old question so you may not get any answers.

My question remains; do you have Antiphospholipidsyndrome? We have too thick blood and it is a rare illness.
