Hi, has anyone had a hysterectomy, and how was it?

I am on both warfarin and clopidogrel.

Kind regards Anja

Yes, I have. It was just fine! Just had to go off of warfarin, INR had go down to about 1 or so, bridge with jabs. After the surgery my PCP helped me go back to correct level, after I used all my jabs, with warfarin.

I have and it was the best thing I ever did! No issues and fully recovered after 6 weeks. Don’t worry just make sure you have a good anticoagulation plan and stay positive.

Thank you so much 😊 This will be my first surgery after my diagnosis and I am a bit afraid of coming off warfarin and clopidogrel. It took months in the beginning to get my inr in range 🫣I will try to think positive, and I do trust my hematologist 😅

I had one around three years ago. It was ok. They took precautions and it went well.

I was on phenindione (very similar to warfarin). I had to come off of it about a week before and bridge with enoxaparin injections. I had nothing the day of the surgery, started injections and phenindione the day after. Once I was at my target inr stopped the injections. I had a bit of extra bruising but that was all. Best thing I ever did. Good luck x

just want to say, usually with APS the bridging plan might be slightly different than a “normal” warfarin patient. Make sure surgeon and hematologist are working together and have liased/ consulted with one another on your case regarding the surgery and bridging plan .

Hi Anjdur- Instead of a hysterectomy I had ablation surgery. I do not know your exact circumstances, but for me the reason my doctor and I were looking at options was that I had massive clotting, bled profusely and was anemic because of it. All of this went on for 10 months. It was horrendous. Hysterectomy is much more imbasive surgery with various risks. Perhaps ablation is an option for you. It worked very well for me.

That is exactly what the doctor plans now, after having discussed it with my APS specialist. So we try that first - on thursday. If it does not work for me, then hysterectomi. Nice to hear that it worked well for you, so thank you for your input 😊
