Massage

As some of you know I’ve just arrived back in the U.K. after over 4 years working in Nigeria. Not surprisingly I’m having some R and R before I start back at work, so I’m off to a spa for a few days ☺️ and I’m really looking forward to it.

Any advice on having a massage (I’ll tell the therapist of course)? Can’t see any information on the pack leaflet, but can imagine there may be some risk.

I don’t know your medical history.

If you have any form of connective tissue disease, deep massage therapy is not recommended as it could potentially damage the tissues.

Enjoy your spa!

With good wishes,

Hi, I'm not allowed massage due to having a clot in my subclavian artery, any stimulation can risk breakage of part or all of the clot. Also increases blood flow which we need to be aware

Certainly talk to your therapist and talk over concerns.

I am so jealous!! I have several chronic clots ( one sitting just next to my heart, and several in the right pulmonary artery) and I go for a massage twice a month. I never get one when I have a new clot. I have to wait a few months before it is safe. And this is just me - but I never let the massage therapist massage my legs (especially my dvt leg). The best thing is to check with the spa as they may have rules about what they are able to do with your medical history.

Thanks Willow, that’s really helpful. My clot is also chronic, but it’s in my brain, so it has its own challenges. They won’t be massaging there though!

It is normally not recommended 'deep tissue massage' for patients, especially if on Warfarin, do check in with your GP please/or consultant. MaryF
