APS blood tests and antiplatelet meds

Is it possible to test for APS whilst taking aspirin 75mg and Clopidogrel 75mg or will these meds affect the outcomes of the tests? My Rheumatologist says they will affect the results and I will test negative for APS, my Cardiologist says they won't.....

I would appreciate any advice or information.

Thanks.

They will not affect your antibody test to beta 2 glycoproteins1 or the anti cardiolipin test.

The only test affected would be the lupus anticoagulant antibody test, and warfarin would affect the bleed time. I’ve not heard that anti platelets affect clotting time . ( it’s because the test adds in viper venom to see how long you respond in vitro. )

It’s possible you might want to ask an expert APS hematologist about the exact parameters regarding clopidogrel and aspirin and how it would affect the bleed/ clot time for the lupus anticoagulant time specifically.

It will take a specialist APS hematologist for this question.

Before being fully diagnosed with APS and switched to warfarin, I was on clopidogrel (75mg I think) due to stroke.

_All_ my APS blood tests were therefore carried out whilst on Clopidogrel, and I tested consistently +ve for LA multiple times (at least 3 lots of tests but I think actually 4 or 5).

Warfarin definitely affects LA results, never heard of Clopidogrel doing so, and it clearly doesn't prevent +ve results (or at least, not for me).

agree - I tested positive for cardiolipin and beta-2-glycoprotein 1 autoantibodies while initially taking Plavix 75 mg (before being switched to warfarin with APS dx).

I take Clopidogrel, 75mg and have since 2007. Good question but I’m afraid I don’t know the answer. I’m sorry 🙁

I've just come across your post. In June 2005 I tested positive for lupus anticoagulant after having a major stroke aged 34. Then I had another small event and was test positive in Oct 2005 in a different hospital. 17 years later and on Clopidogrel I have tested negative.
