I have server APS & a bleeding condition with low platelets. I have already had a stroke & multiple TIAs. I have not long finished treatment for a brain tumour too. I am really concerned about the risk of clots with the Oxford vaccination. Have people with APS & low platelets had this vaccination & where they okay thanks in advance

Lind8,

We are not offered this particular vaccine in the USA at this time.

However, I encourage you to follow Prof Beverly Hunt on this topic on Twitter:

@bhwords

I’ll give you a quick recap from my vague recollection from her last tweet almost a week ago- it said something to the effect that she was pausing to focus an intense look into unusual incidences into thrombocytopenia and clotting in unusual sites .

I can’t imbed a photo of that tweet here- so please have a read of her tweet word for word yourself on her direct Twitter account.

If you would like, I’ll put up a post with her tweet. ( I just don’t want to scaremonger because she’s looking into it- nothing yet verified- no statistics- so I’m really not comfortable doing that.)

But in your particular case- you might speak to your GP about this and request another “brand.”

It is so difficult to work it all out, I was not allowed to have Pfizer, and had to have Astra Zen, I react to most drugs anyway, however I was not worried as I am already on two Aspirin a day. I follow B. Hunt also, plus GHIC puts regular advice out on the vaccines, such a new thing for us to all be fathoming out and dealing with. MaryF

Thanks to Kelly from Texas, I now know the common denominator to my multiple drug allergies. Polyethalene glycol, aka, PEGs. So I had to have the Johnson and Johnson shot. And.., No problems. Maybe a slight fever that afternoon and sleepy the next day.

Hi, I've just turned 70 and had the AZ 4 weeks ago before all this happened with the clots. I must say if I had known what I know now I would not have had the AZ. I was offered the Pfizer and told my GP I would prefer the AZ so that's what I had. I wasn't very well next day, had joint pain and headachy but OK otherwise. However its a different story now and until further research is done I eill be saying no to the 2nd AZ. I had low platelets long before Aps diagnosis sometimes with hospital admission for platelet transfusion and IVIG. I'm also triple pos. I don't want to put anyone off but I think more research needs to be done for people with clotting/bleeding disorders. If you are worried about it you should be able to request an alternative vax. All the best Elfie
