I was diagnosed with factor 5 and 8! Meaning 8 is genetic from both parents! Rd's started me on Coumadin and what a disaster! Blood levels up and down constant ! After 5 yrs and misery! They out me in Eliquist 2.5 mg twice day! No more checking the blood levels it does all that for you and it's been the best drug ever for Factor 5! I feel much better and no more vitamin K shots! I do have to go off of it when surgical procedures done and take levenox shots! I currently had a procedure last week and had to have the shots and now have a knot solid in the area! Concerned! Should I see a doctor ?

I have factor five which relates to clotting disorders (Leiden v, protein C resistance). As far as I am aware factor 8 is the opposite and relates to haemophilia. Both are hereditary as related to genes.

I have APS as well which is completely different in terms of diagnostic categories but similar in that they both increase the propensity to clot.

Treatment for both is adequate anticoagulant management.

Hope this helps
