Hughes Syndrome and adoption process

We are going through the adoption process and one of the requirements is a doctors note confirming good health. I'm not sure if a Hughes Syndrome diagnosis will disqualify us for adoption. Has anyone been rejected because of a HS diagnosis?-Thank you.

I doubt very much that an APS diagnosis would render you disqualified from the process. You need to be able to cope with the mental and physical demands of adoption, so perhaps someone who themselves needs a full time carer may not be suitable, although someone with physical disabilities shouldn't be excluded.

I went through the same process, they have to write to your GP and consultants but as long as they support you which all mine did you should be fine. I have a lot of health issues as well as Hughes and I was approved. I couldn't be happier. Good luck to you and keep me posted on your progress xx

Hi, I had a different experience I am a foster carer and have been for a very long time. I took five years out due to ill health from Hughes Syndrome and when I reapplied I was initially turned down with an Agency, I had 20 years experience of being a foster carer. I was devastated but persevered and they decided to let me be a respite carer to be reviewed after a year. I now have been a fully fledged foster carer again for about 5 years. It is sometimes a struggle but I get by and make allowances.

We adopted our children 20 and18 years ago ,at the time I did not have Hughes syndrome ( not that I was aware of had never heard of it ) ,the social services are looking to see if you are healthy enough to care for a child long term and that you do not have a life threatening illness ,if your APS is under control this will not be a problem ,you need your GP to be positive and so must you be when the social worker visits they probably never heard of APS anyway ,good luck you will get there and if I can help you again I will .
