I am 63 and have suffered with HS since I was 17. I have outbreaks in the groin area. My dermatologist recommended 2 washes to use on a daily basis when showering. One is called 10% Benzoyl Peroxide, and the other is Hibiclens Antiseptic Antimicrobial Skin Liquid Soap. This has worked well for me. My outbreaks are much farther apart. However, I do at times have the need to have one lanced. It is very tempting to attempt to lance one myself when the pressure and itching is unbearable, but each time I do this, I end up with a bad infection.

Hidradenitis Suppurativa
I'm 48 and HS started for me about 4 years ago. It was actually after a virus was discovered in my newly transplanted kidney. I went on Arava and an IV every two weeks. It started with something that looked like acne, which was on my upper body and mid-section. After that the HS started in my armpits and groin.
I'm on my 4th dermatologist, and so far she's been the best. She put me on accutane for the "acne" which cleared most of that up, it didn't do a lot for the HS, maybe a little. I had gotten so used to my previous dermatologist going in to have any outbreak numbed, cut and cleared out as much as possible, then steroid injections. I swear, at times I between numbing and steroids I was stabbed 30 times or more. Horrible.
I will say though what I've gone through is no where near what I'd read in this support group. I can say to a point, I know how it feels.
I had originally read people were usually younger when it started, and more typical in females? I'm male and was around 44 when it started. I'm actually going this afternoon for one on my upper most inner thigh, not a good spot since it rubs every step I take!!
I have been so depressed since the kidney virus, and then this. How does everyone one get along?
