Hello to anyone who was diagnosed with HIV and is currently taking meds, i’m just wondering when will the rash disappear? Im taking LTE (more info on my profile) and im one week in for the treatment. I kinda noticed they started appearing after i drank coconut water idk if it has something to do with that. And will the rash progress to something that will scar? Haaalllp

Have you only just been started on treatment or have you been on treatment but recently changed to this drug ? I ask because when starting treatment for the first time the body's immune system begins to wake up and fight infections that have been lying dormant , and it's possible that's what's happening here . If you have been on treatment for a while and recently changed meds it may be a possible reaction . Read the information that comes with your medication . Alternatively this rash may be coincidental and nothing to do with the medication you are on . Either way seek medical help if this gets worse or won't clear up on its own after time .

I’ve only started treatment and this is my only drug. Yeah I’ve read the pamphlet and it does state that you may develop a rash. So far it has improved already and i think i no longer need to worry about it

If the rash is mild , then you can treat with antihistamines and it will pass . If you develop fever, or the rash begins to affect your eyes, mouth etc, you should discuss urgently with your healthcare provider.

I see you are newly diagnosed. Can I recommend this as a website : aidsmap.com/

Also have you been screened for STIs, including syphilis ?

I have been screened for syphilis (thank God negative) for STIs not yet. And I’ll definitely check out the website coz right now i am experiencing fever like symptoms 😥

Ok that's great about syphilis ( totally curable with antibiotics ). Here in the UK screening for hepatitis B and C is also recommended, as well as a check for gonorrhea and chlamydia. If you are not protected against hepatitis B , then vaccination is recommended. There is no vaccine for hep C yet.

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely talk with my dockie about testing for other STIs. To good health 🥂

Update on this thread: my dockie said the rash was an allergic reaction for the cotrimaxozole medication (tb prevention) and not with the ARV drug and so far my skin has improved already and hopefully will be smooth sailing from here! 🥰
