To say the least, my life changes drastically on 7/13/2019. I went to the Hospital on 7/8 due to shortness of breath an gurgling sounds in my lungs. Long story short, was hospitalized for 2 days for pneumonia. Completely cleared up and apparently I had walking pneumonia. Was tested for TB and was negative. Had normal labs, but had an HIV test react for HIV 2, at 1.1. ID doc suspected a false positive due to the low numbers. Long story short, 12 HIV tests in 13 months all negative and no DNA or PCR reaction. HIV 2 is specific to west Africa, India and some of Europe. It’s been declared a false positive, but I actually dated someone from west Africa back in 2014-2016. I also had 3 negative HIV tests between 2016-2019. I’ve monitored my CD4/CD8 profile for the past year and it’s dropped from 792 to 592. It’s went up and down a couple of times, but i actually feel ill. Dr gave me a general diagnosis of fibromyalgia, but if I have hiv I want to get ahead of this thing before it’s too late. I am in the US and there seems to be limited knowledge about this particular strain. Any advice would be appreciated. I do respect this forum.

Hi , If you read the other posts on this forum you will see that there is a very real problem with anxiety over the results of HIV tests , in that people are unable to accept a negative test as being correct . There are also several posts like yours where people are ill with a mystery condition that has some similarities to HIV , but does not appear to be HIV . One poster just recently brought to attention the " Chinese HIV like virus " . The fact that your CD4 count is dropping means that your problem is real , but when I have looked for causes of CD decline the only one given is HIV . It looks like there may well be a new virus out there that has not yet been recognised .
Understood Griffon. In no way making light of this. Anxiety is not the issue for me at this point. It’s my actual declining health. White tongue, not thrush, ringing in my ears, skin changes, brain fog, muscle and joint pain, feeling like a constant flu is in the works that never comes, and as you’ve recognized, declining CD4 and CD8 counts. Thank you for at least responding because I know this cite is a source for you.
The CD4 decline is a real worry . The other symptoms are similar to what I suffered from Hepatitis B . Again if you scroll back I had a long conversation with a guy who had similar problems that stemmed from his liver too .
Both of you are making the mistake of looking at cd4/cd8 ratios as ABSOLUTE . They are not. They fluctuate all the time . Our blood is a soup of cells, plasma, electrolytes that change all the time. It is the progressive decline in CD4 cells that is the hallmark of HIV infection.
If you have had repeated HIV testing on modern platforms, you do not have HIV 1 or 2 .
They will not do an HIV 2 viral load test unless you have more than 1 reactive hiv 2 antibody test. I’ve had 6 non reactive antibody tests after the first one, but like I said, CD4 has declined to 592. I don’t know what to do anymore. I feel helpless. Without a positive test, no one will help me. HIV 2 is so different from HIV 1.
Hi, anyway you can get in touch with that person , if not try getting in touch with a large research hiv institution or clinical trials. NIH For example
