When I wear a heart monitor I feel wonderful, as if I could climb mountains! Take the monitor off and yes the heart starts misbehaving again. I'm afraid it's sods law and I wonder if it's because when we wear them we feel a kind of security. This has always made me wonder what part our minds play with regard to our abnormal heart rhythm.

Yes your ECG will still be examined.

yes I needed a Holter for double that time for anything to show up. You should get a telephone call to discuss your ECG. Prior to this call I suggest you write down any questions you have, those things that are worrying you, so you are prepared for the call. I find being prepared helps me get the most out of any health chat with Consultants. I wish you well going forward. x

I’ve rarely had anything show on a 24 hour monitor but the ones I’ve had for 7 and 14 days were much more useful and nailed my diagnosis.

Hi bantam12, how does one get ti have 7/14 days Holter monitor. The NHS only allows for 24 hr and I had to go private to be able to get a 48 hour one. It sure helps the longer one had it on

Mine were NHS requested by my cardiologist at the hospital. I’ve also had 48 hour ones via my GP in the past.

I suppose it depends where you are in the country. I will ask my cardiologist next time and see what he suggests. Thanks for that.

Hi ETHEL103 I had a 24 hour monitor when I first developed occasional episodes of P-AF. I said it would be a waste of time because my episodes at that time were not very frequent . It was a waste of time nothing was recorded.

How I wish I had heard about the Kardia monitor then, it would have saved me 6 months of anxiety while I tried to get myself to hospital during an episode of AF for a ECG to confirm it. My episodes are symptomatic I know when I go into P-AF and could have taken a Kardia reading there and then .

Hi yes my Kardia is the best.My monitor was a followup to an ablation I had last May.I send kardias through to arrhythmia nurse when I had felt something.Hopefully themonitor will be checked still.

I had the same, I had 48 hour monitor and no paf, the next day I fekt a few ectopics! As somebody said, I think there is a sense of security while being attached to the monitor!

if it doesn’t show anything push for a longer one 7-14 days.

It might be you have ectopics etc but that you do not feel all of them. That is so in my case(feel none) and if I had not had a motorbike accident and they were uncovered there I still would not know. They are minimal currently(1.25 mg Bisoprolol}. So complete and hand in , if you have not already.

I guess it depends what your issue is. I had one for my AF and it recorded that I was in constant AF the entire time, but if yours is not persistent AF then of course it wouldn't benefit you much....
