Hi Dolores.....I’m into my 15thyear with an ICD and on my 2nd one!...therefore I think I’m fairly qualified to give you an opinion. I was diagnosed with Brugada Syndrome ,after a lifetime of syncope and ectopicbeats etc. and eventually saw an electrophysiologist and given the choice . I look at it in a rather different way than most in that I think of the disease as a tightrope ,I’m the wirewalker, and the ICD is the safety net that catches you if you happen to fall. It’s a scary option to think you need one ,and it’s got it’s pros and cons. I was 60 when I got mine and I worried a lot at first when fitted. Now it’s just a little lump under my skin with a home monitor recording everything my heart does and transmitting the information to cardiology. I lead a perfectly normal life, I have no ill effects from it and would definitely say I recommend one ....if only to stop you worrying about what may go wrong with your heart that “it” could intervene to. My cardiologist once reassured me about mine by saying,”you’re the safest person in this room!,” Only you can decide with your doctor ,but I wish you well and hope I have allayed some of your fears.
