I've been on Aamiodarone for 12 months and have stayed in NSR after my 6th cardioversion. I was waiting for a second ablation but obviously that isn't going to happen anytime soon so the team have agreed for me to stop taking Amidarone. I know it has a very long half life so the effects of the drug will continue for a while to come. My question is: Has anyone on here had the experience of stopping Amiodarone after so long taking it? Is there anything I should look out for?
Thanks

Hi. I was on Amiodarone for 2.5 years and was taken off it last October as I had lost 4 stone and cardiologist thought it worth a try stopping meds and seeing if I stayed in sinus rhythm, rather than putting me back on ablation list (I'd been taken off list in error previously) All was going well but then, sadly AF started up again so I've had to go back on Amiodarone (I don't tolerate beta blockers) and may have to have another cardioversion (will be my 3rd) and back on the ablation list. I think it takes around 3 months to be out of your system. I'm gutted to be back on it but I'd forgotten how rough the AF makes you feel. Good luck.
