Ablation Go Ahead.. Sedation or GA?

I just had my consult with an EP and he believes I’ve had the svt and Vtach from birth, as a defect. He says he thinks I’m a great candidate, but is pushing for me to do under sedation. After reading other experiences on this forum, I feel more comfortable doing GA. But he states that sedation is better, because they are more likely to get the VT to occur while I’m still awake while with the catheter in to know where to burn exactly. My fear is to feel anything, even movement, pain and to see the monitor. I just want to be asleep and wake up & it be done. He said it may be a longer waitlist as well for GA. As under sedation is only a 2 hour procedure vs 6 hr under GA he said. And he said with sedation I can go home within a few hours after. But I want to stay the night for them to monitor me. Any advice?

Go for the GA and wait longer for your ablation if you have to. I've had two with sedation and a third with GA and that last one was far better. Have never heard of it taking longer depending on what you have.

Ok thank you! I’m going to wait for the GA

While I would normally advise to go with what your EP wants I can see that sedation really will cause you extreme anxiety. Also I am with you regarding staying overnight! I've stayed over with all 3 of mine....2 x sedation and 1 x GA.

So I would wait longer for the GA as Jean suggests

Take GA if you can. I had one under sedation and the drugs didn’t have any effect on me. So I was wide awake the whole time 😱.

Because mine is easy to trigger and because They found I have another SVT then initially diagnosed, they will perform a new one under GA.

The EP proposed it to go under GA, so of course I didn’t say no, as you can imagine.

Tomorrow I go in at 5pm and will be having my ablation the next day at 8am.

Beforehand they will give me a double dose of tranquilizer this time and after that I will go 😴.

It’s true that the EP told me that there is a possibility that they cannot trigger the svt but since the last time when I was awake they could trigger it very easily, he thinks it will be doable under GA.

Thank you, I feel my gut about GA and people’s experiences I should do GA.

So with the sedation, you felt everything? 😳😩

How did your recent ablation go?

Yes, I felt everything with the sedation, because it didn’t work, due to my nervousness.

My second one did not work out well, they mapped everything and that was ok and all, also the GA was perfect, but they couldn’t ablate because the cells they have to ablate are to near to my phrenic nerve and sinus node. So the EP has send me to another specialist who perhaps could get to it going in from the outside, thorascopic ablation. I will see the specialist at the end of this month. I don’t know yet if I will do this, because it’s a far more invasive procedure than a catheter ablation.
