Hey just had a baby back in june 0f 2018 and here lately ive been having a slow heart rate on and off ive been to the emergency room because of it and a cardiologist who said my heart looks good but didnt really give me a cause just said i had Bradycardia but any other time my heart rate is in the upper 60s lower 70s and when im sitting still its in the high 50s but ive caught it in the low 50s recently.... Has anyone else had this problem and was okay?

That seems ok at rest, my son is athletic and at rest it’s 48 beats sometimes. Mine is about 62 at rest but I,m 71

Some people have a slow heart rate and are fine. It may be a problem if it causes breathlessness, dizziness or makes you short of energy. If you function quite well it may be OK and just what's normal for you.

Hi Destinyweathers,

I started experiencing my heart slowing over several years. As it slowed my symptoms worsened. Cardiologists, were in my experience, reticent to acknowledge what was happening and were saying similar things, that a low heart rate is not such a problem and that people who are athletic are just fine with such heart rates and that they considered me to be too young to have a pacemaker....... I was aged in my low 50's. However, if you are not athletic and experiencing symptoms then there surely follows that there is another cause for a slowing heart. My heart was left to its own devices for far too long and continued slowing. I am short circuiting what happened along the way, but I eventually had two cardioversions to try and put me back in rhythm as I went out of rhythm, then required an ablation and when that didn't cure everything I eventually had a pacemaker. I now have junctional rhythm - the pacemaker now doesn't let my heart go slow.... My advice is that you seek to see an EP rather than a cardiologist as they have more knowledge about Bradycardia and will look at the causes of your Bradycardia.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards

EP = Cardiac electrophysiologists who focus on your heart's timing, or electrical, system and on diagnosing and treating irregular heartbeats or arrhythmias.

Hi, You have absolutely nothing to worry about if yo feel ok. I am 71 and since first taking bisoprolol about three years ago my resting heart rate is between 39 and 45. I am very active and feel fine. Everyone is different. The answer is don't worry or be anxious if you feel ok. Enjoy life.

Hello Destiny,

What a lovely name! Just to say that I have something called 1st Degree Heartblock - which is no big deal - it will only very rarely cause a problem - but it has caused my heart rate to fall now and then. When I last saw a doctor about it the rate was in the 50's - he said nothing to worry about, that it was very common, and that to see him if it falls to 40 beats per minute, when a pacemaker might be fitted. Well it never has fallen that low. All I'm saying is that you're okay at 50 beats - the norm is something like 60 to 100 beats - although a fit athlete may have a heart beat of 40 beats per minute. So you are definitely okay! You can find lots of info on the web - although you have to be a little careful - use the NHS pages whenever possible.

Hope this helps!

Stop worrying - enjoy your baby!
