After resuscitation

3 weeks ago I had to be resuscitated after my heart stopped. AF still ongoing. However my heart is beating like a drum, when ever I just sit and rest, or when in bed, it is most disconcerting. My sternum is still quite sore, and it hurts to take a deep breath. Comments please, is this due to the resuscitation only or could it continue for some reason? Should I discuss with my GP?

Thank you

I have svt and ectopics awaiting to check for a fib. I did not know the heart could stop with this condition, I have really strange moments sometimes as if I,m going to pass out, I take a low dose of bisoprolol. I don,t want to increase the dosage because of side effects.

Yes of course you should consult a doctor. Are you not booked in to see a cardiologist already? I'm surprised you did not receive a scan and diagnosis at the time your heart stopped.

Resuscitation is quite brutal, but I would expect you to be feeling less sore 3 weeks on but I'm not a doctor.

All the best.

It is frightening if you suffer with this, I did not think the heart would stop.

How did your heart stop? I didn’t realise it could stop due to atrial fibrillation. What can you remember before losing consciousness?

Hi, thank you for the replies. My heart stopped because an artery was blocked, and whilst in hospital I had a stent fitted! I can remember nothing from several hours before collapsing until I came home 5 days later. Even being unable to experience the helicopter flight to the hospital. Sadly the AF is as it was before, the brief heart stoppage did not correct it! It is now 4 weeks after the 'event' and I am gradually beginning to feel a little better. Later this week I am returning to the hospital for something called a Recovery Programme, could be something of interest.
