total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo oophorectomy

I had my total hysterectomy with bilateral salpingo oophorectomy 2 weeks ago had my staples removed yesterday and considering I have been walking around the block for the last week with no problem, last night was a very uncomfortable night and I’m very sore today, my wound has bled a bit but I have just put some gauze on which the nurse gave me to change daily and I have been getting some pain in my tummy along the wound which is along my bikini line. Is this normal, how far should I be aiming to walk daily, sometimes when sitting I get very dizzy and sometimes sickly and lightheaded is this normal and should I still feel so tired

Hi Kemali, I’m sorry you’re feeling worse. You should ring the doctor for advice and get checked out. I developed a really bad wound infection for which I had to have more surgery, so don’t leave it any longer if you are worried. Better to get it checked as Hannah said in your other post. Being very tired is part of the recovery but think you should rule out infection before working out your next steps for recovery, it is a very big op x

It’s a good day today feeling great and only had 2 paracetamol this morning for a bit of discomfort. Had my daily walk around the block no problem1400 steps. My wound seems to be healing well now as I have changed the gauze dressing, there was a bit of blood but seems to be healing Ok

Good to hear it’s a better day, the trick is to take it slowly. Listen to your body and rest when you need to rest. Hope you continue to improve bit by bit x

Hi Kemali,

Am sorry to hear that you are in pain.

I had the same in 2019 Feb but mine I didn't have staples. Some spray they use nowadays and on the 3rd day you get the strapping removed and you can even clean the area as you shower. No open wound is visible till the incision starts to heal and the scar starts forming.

Now, with bleeding you need to see your surgeon.

Secondly, minimise the amount of walking time. I used to do 5minutes. With time you gradually improve. Don't overdo it.

Use beetroot juice like no one's business. Dizziness is normal but you need to improve on your blood count quickly. Do you experience headaches as well with the Dizziness? I developed Vertigo even while sleeping. I could feel the bed moving and I couldn't lie on my left side. It had something to do with some damaged nerves during surgery. Fresh beetroot juice helps restore lost blood efficiently.

Pls see your surgeon for the bleeding. Pain is normal. Rest. Don't overwork or seat.

Wish you a quick recovery.

Blessings and stay safe.

Hi Thankyou I think the blood was just from where I’ve had the gauze covering where my staples where as they were only removed yesterday and I’m hoping the blood is just from the. It’s a bit like when you cut yourself and after removing the plaster and the cut still bleeds a little until fresh air gets to it, the gauze is there to stop any sweating as my tummy hangs a bit.

Hi I think you are pushing yourself too hard too soon - yr body is telling you it’s not ready. I had same operation and was told to to rest completely for first week but I had no energy to do anything for first couple of weeks and was still losing blood and went on to develop wound infection which was treated with antibiotics.

Thankyou, I am only walking around the block daily about 4-5min walk. My main problem at the minute is one minute I’m constipated and the next I’m OK I’m drinking plenty of water, peppermint tea and fresh orange. I’m having veg and for breakfast a few shredded with some blueberries chopped strawberries and prunes. I have been taking senna and lactulose for about 5 days but stopped yesterday, I might start having the lactulose again to see if it helps.
