Hi everybody. Just wondering what foods you would suggest to eat especially after you have had COVID and want to strengthen your immune system. I had the virus on 9th January and was tested negative on 24th January and since then I have been feeling drowsy and more tired than usual and have been feeling sleepy too. Maybe after effects of having it? Would anyone mind suggesting the right food to eat to maximise my immune system and help my body to get back to normal? Thank you so much really appreciate it!

Have you talked to your doctor about the symptoms you're having from being over the COVID virus? Some people who have had it feel tired or other side effects for weeks and months.

Wilko do a nice chewable vitamin c with no artificial sweetners ,try to include organic carrots and broccoli, free range chicken , free range eggs, in your diet , it will take time , did you get respiratory problems?

There was a study that showed people's gut microbiota were badly affected by having the virus, so I'd suggest trying some probiotic foods, it you're up to them? Things like Sauerkraut or kimchi (you need proper stuff from a health food shop, not the jars from the supermarket because they've been pasteurised to kill off the bacteria, or you can make your own). You could also get kombucha or kefir or even probiotic yoghurt drinks.

Make sure to have some decent fibre foods to feed the bacteria. A good diversity of veggies will also broaden your nutrient intake.

Immune boosting foods would include lots of zinc and vitamin C :)

I’m taking vitamin C tablets and zinc tablets daily if that will help?

It should be fine :)

Hi 2021- this is a very relevant question. Its important to eat as healthy and nutritious a diet as possible.

Have you come across quinoa? It’s a seed eaten as a grain and it is very important nutritionally as all the food we eat is broken down into 23 base amino acids and quinoa contained all 23 so including it in your diet could help.

As for supplements vitamin C and zinc is good but I’d also take magnesium as many people are Mg deficient, Mg is important for the absorption of calcium and vitaminD.

Here’s a link to advice from the NHS about post COVID please see:

I think the advice eat small meals and often is excellent, so good luck and let your body relax and recover.
