Calling All Readers!

Hi and Happy Holidays to you!

:-)

This is our January 2021 Reading Rabbits Book Posting. You can post your comments and suggestions about any book/magazine/newspaper that does/doesn't have to do with any medical issues on this posting. You can mention about your favorite authors, as well. This posting will be pinned to the Pinned Posts for easier access.

Since it’s the holiday season, I had decided to start reading β€œHolly and Ivy”, by Fern Michaels. It was a holiday gift from Jerry and I felt (and still do) that it was an appropriate choice of story to read before anything else on my list of books. I’ve been reading β€œHolly and Ivy” for a few days now.

β€œHolly and Ivy” starts out in Pine City, North Carolina. It deals with a family who ends up taking a flight and the wife ( Ivy) had to stay behind because she had to work at the time. Her husband, John Fine and their twin children Elizabeth and James went on the flight for the airline that Ivy’s father worked/owned and on the way to their destination, the Pilot crashes the plane. The accidental crash makes the news on TV. No one knows so far why the Pilot had crashed the plane 8 years ago.

Holly Greenwood and her two best friends, Kayla and Roxie are talking about wanting to be in the Christmas musical, but Holly’s father refuses to say why she isn’t allowed to practice and be in the musical. Holly has a lovely singing voice and sneaks out of the house to go see her singing teacher one afternoon after school so her father wouldn’t know ( he refused any singing in the house after Holly’s mother passed away). We’ll see what comes next!

Okay, now to you! What are you reading that’s holiday/non-holiday themed? Can’t wait to hear all about it!

My next book after β€œHolly and Ivy” will be β€œSpirit of the Season”. It is also written by Fern Michaels.

Hi! I love the sound of Holly and Ivy, it sounds exactly like the kind of book I usually read. I haven't picked any holiday-season books yet, at the moment I'm really into mystery-thriller, suspense-type books - I'm not sure if that's a premonition of my own life?! I'm currently reading The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley, I'm about halfway through (242 of 391) and it's pretty good so far, if not as suspenseful as I would have liked. I've also read Confessions on the 7:45 by Lisa Unger, Playdate by Alex Dahl, and Little Bones by N V Peacock in the last week or so. I find that I get these periods of time where I suddenly have to read about 20 books in a month!

I do want to go about reading the Chronicles of Narnia series again, last year we went to see the play for Christmas - as we can't do that, the book will be a very good replacement. It's such a nostalgic book.

Also I just wanted to add that it seems like you may have posted this thread three times now? I wasn't sure which one to reply to.

We post the same posting for 3 different groups on HU each month, but talk about different books at the time. Sorry if there was any confusion! :-)

The idea about reading Chronicles of Narnia sounds like a great plan! There are a few books that I would like to reread in the next few months, too, but will have to do that after a few of the books on my to read soon list gets done, first. :-)

Ah I see! Luckily I seem to have posted in the correct forum then. I just ordered the complete set of the Narnia series because I was feeling really nostalgic. I might also re-read Harry Potter again as the Christmas scenes in that are really lovely :)

That's fantastic! If you reread Harry Potter, you may get some ideas for Christmas decorations/gifts. :-)

Holly & Ivy sounds very interesting Leah.

The books I am hoping to get read over Christmas are David Attenborough - Life on Air, this is exceptionally long and may take sometime, The next book is One in Three by Tess Stimson - its about an man being murdered and the only three suspects are his current girlfriend, the Ex girlfriend and the Ex's mother, I have yet to start "the unxplained" - so that will be next on my list, but first a very small book 157 small pages called - All you need is less by Vicki Vrint - which is about finding time for yourself and having a less stressful life.

Best wishes

Debs

Wow, Debs! Those books sound really great! I will have to see if I can find them by me soon. I love reading long/semi-long books and they seem like the right amount of pages/length for me!πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸŒˆπŸ“šπŸ‡πŸ“–

Yes, Holly and Ivy is really great and I will be starting chapter 13 today this afternoon. I have been reading about 3-4 chapters a night before bedtime and sometimes in the afternoon hours.πŸ˜€πŸ‘πŸŒˆ

Hi everyone,

I finished " Holly and Ivy", by Fern Michaels last night before going to bed, It was a very sweet and lovely story. It started out a little sad, but it had a big surprise at the end. This was my first holiday story written by Fern Michaels that I have read so far this year. I recommend this one for anyone who loves to read romance and has a plan to read any holiday-themed based books this season. :-)

I'm going to start reading " The Spirit of the Season" today.

I'm starting Chapter 7 today in "Spirit of the Season", by Fern Michaels. It also takes place in North Carolina and parts of Denver, Colorado. The beginning is a little sad, but it seems that the Granddaughter of Anna Rose Huntley ( Joy Preston) is going to try and help run her Grandmother's bed and breakfast as she had requested in her will. She was told by the lawyer that the will says Joy has to live at the bed and breakfast for 6 months to keep being the new CEO of it. Joy is going to see how she can deal with the bed and breakfast and still run her own nail polish business in Colorado with some of her friends out there at the same time.

Back at the bed and breakfast, the Staff is planning for the annual Gingerbread house building competition between the other bed and breakfasts in the area of Spruce City, North Carolina. Each participant has to build a house that looks like their own bed and breakfast house and make it with a holiday-themed look to it. Who will win the competition?

My list of what I plan to read coming up after Spirit of the Season. They are:

1. Home Sweet Home -- Fern Michaels

2. The Search -- Nora Roberts/J.D. Robb

3. The Institute __ Stephen King

4. I Heart London __ Lindsay Kelk ( Recommended highly by Luna_Child)

5. The Guest List __ Fern Michaels

6. The 6th Target -- James Patterson

7. The Apt Pupil -- Stephen King

8. Mr. Mercedes -- Stephen King

9. Finders Keepers -- Stephen King

10. End of Watch -- Stephen King

Hi everyone. I finished " Spirit of the Season", by Fern Michaels last night before going to bed. It was really sweet and showed that even when you have things not the way you planned for them to go-- or be, sometimes, things workout for the best and you end up liking the end result. I highly recommend the book for those who enjoy romance novels/stories and also love celebrating holidays.

My next book will be: " Home Sweet Home", by Fern Michaels, Donna Kauffman and Melissa Storm. " Home Sweet Home" is an anthology and all three authors added their own stories to create one book. The stories in the book are: " Three's A Crowd", by Fern Michaels, " New Beginnings in Blue Hollow Falls", by Donna Kauffman and "Bring Me Home", by Melissa Storm.

" Home Sweet Home" is 295 pages with all three stories put together.
