Has anybody here tried NOOM?

I see the ads for it on television constantly. If you've tried it, please give us an overview of how it works, and how it is working for you. Thank you.

I signed up to it out of general curiosity once! Mostly because I was trying to find out how much it costs and they don't tell you until you've filled it all in and completed the free trial.

If I recall correctly, it was relatively pricey - I think about £30 or 40 a month? A quick Google says it's $49 USD, but I can't find GBP.

They ask you to pay for the "free trial" too - I think I went for the minimum of £3 for the trial period.

In essence, even though they say they're about habit change and intuitive eating, it's still a calorie controlled diet. Before you even tell them anything about yourself, or your activity levels or history, they want you to cut back to 1200 calories a day, low fat, etc. I found it also wanted a large time commitment to fill in all your daily tasks and log your meals. During the free trial, you get a wellness coach, who you message ad hoc, but after the free trial you will be popped into a buddy group of about 8 people, who are all there to keep each other accountable and to cheer you on. I think those are the only main benefits of the app. It's a lot of money for what you'd basically get from going to slimming world/weight watchers group though.

You can always sign up for the "free trial" (as long as you're happy to pay for it), and see if you like it. For me, it was far too expensive.

Hi,

I'm the same. I've seen it everywhere, so I've opted for the 2 week free trial for £1.00. So far it's a daily dose of phychology, logging of your food and adding in exercise.

The diet is calculated for you and you are given a daily calorie goal, divided in green unlimited calories ( veggies etc) yellow - approx 500 calories for me ( eggs, poultry etc) and red - approx 300 calories for me ( oils, white bread etc) per day.

Pros: it's easy to use, it's easy to plan food according to colour allowance, the phychology linked to eating habits are interesting.

Cons: They wanted £126 for 6 months up front. The pedometer on the app doesn't work very well.

I've lost 2 pounds, but I've also been doing lots of exercise, so I can't say it's down to the app alone.

I don't think I'll pay once the trial ends, but it might be worth doing the trial to see how you feel as it's set me off with some good habits I can maintain without the app.

Ah yes, that was it - £126 upfront. I remember it just being a large amount of money.

It sounds as though it's changed slightly since I trialled it, as I was given a flat calorie limit (no free veggies), but I still don't know if that would make me change my mind.

When I tried to cancel, I think they gave an option to pay monthly first of all, then they offered half price for the first few months, so they might offer the same to you.

I did the trial period and felt like I was just logging in what I ate. I did not think for what the cost was going to be that I did not get enough of what I was looking for. Seems like it's tailored for a group but not individually.

Oh, so they don’t send you food each week?!! I use weightlessresources.co.uk. Sounds similar but cheaper. You can get a free 48 hr trial there too.

Hi , yes I did Noom for 4 months . I found it very good as gave lots of support and motivation. You get to access chat groups to encourage each other and someone you can set goals with and chat to on a one to one. You also get training on how to manage your diet from a psychological angle. I reached my target and took away from it lots of info on how to maintain my results .

NOOM is mostly a behavior alternating theory. It teaches you by message what triggers eating and how to defeat it. But it takes a huge amount of self control. I would not recommend it as you can do the same with a book. Get a kitchen scale that measures what you consume and use it. Same results with a lot less cost. NOOM is very costly.

Not what you're looking for?
