Happy Chinese New Year 新 Xīn 年 nián 快 kuài 乐

Good morning everyone today is the start of the Chinese New Year and my thoughts and feelings are with those caught up in the Coronavirus crisis as it should be a period of great celebration when we have lock down of major cities.

Here's a link with Chinese New Year deserts as there are some very interesting and tasty looking deserts.

You missed a word ... 乐 (樂 in proper writing) is pronounced 'le' (meaning happy).

Incidentally ... notice that all those desserts are basically starch? Also, none of them are very sweet. Over in this part of the world, sugar and starch are treated with a certain amount of care. "Sugar" and "Carbohydrate" are pronounced the same, and have similar written characters.

Thank you that is very interesting, I just copied it from the link I posted.

I noticed turnip cake and thats why I posted a link to the deserts because they are very different from ours.

Happy Chinese New Year to you, too, Hidden ! :-) The article gives good information about what the traditions and meanings of each cake are suppose to be representing. This will come in handy for tonight and next Saturday's celebration I'm going to for the Chinese New Year. Thank you for sharing this with everyone. :-)
