This link provides a video explaining aspartame.

I would not be surprised was the main reason for my brain tumours.

I used to guzzle fizzy diet drinks like water.

Now, I do not touch fizzy drinks.

Thank you for sharing Matt2584 , I'm going to have a look at that later.

Also, I'm so sorry you have a brain tumour. Maybe once I've read this I can show it to my husband who doesn't stop drinking Diet Coke, he would be better drinking full sugar Coke.

My main drink is water, I have had the occasionally fizzy drink but it's quite rare. The only other fizzy drink is natural and that's Kombucha Tea.

Yes, show it to your husband. It may make him rethink about drinking diet coke.

Full sugar coke would be better off to drink than diet but even original coke is not great.

I had/have 2 brain tumours in total. Well the 2nd tumour was a cyst and was told by doctors that it was equivalent to a tumour.

My first tumour calcified during surgery meaning it still remains but is inactive. Hopefully it stays that way too.

Once I started coming away from all the sugar and fizzy drinks I started to drink cordial instead which is a lot better for you than fizzy drinks but even cordial has aspartame in it... which I was not aware about for the first few years of when I was drinking it.

I think the closest drink/s I have that is close to fizzy drinks is either ginger beer/ale, dandelion and burdock or a pint of guinness :).

With the ginger and dandelion and burdock, it is always good to check the ingredients still.

I prefer Old Jamaica Ginger beer and Fenteman's Dandelion and Burdock.

Yes I certainly will and if he drinks less of the full sugar Coke that would be far better.

I'm so glad your second tumour was a cyst and the other one remains inactive, with you conscious of what you eat and drink I would hope it wouldn't change.

Yes unfortunately some cordials do have aspartame in them. I like ginger beer but very rarely drink it and don't drink alcohol at all.

Old Jamaica Ginger Beer is definitely the best. I used to drink Dandelion and Burdock a lot when I was younger.

Hi Matt2584

I very rarely have a fizzy drink - I think the only time is when I am feeling dehydrated when away from home, and might reach for some original full sugar coca-cola as an option, as I was told by a GP once that it was a good option to re-hydrate. But generally I avoid them, and especially anything with artificial sweeteners. I occasionally have a tonic water - maybe a couple a year (very infrequent).

Hope you're enjoying the weekend.

Zest :-)

As I was saying to Hidden , full sugar/original coke is better than diet coke.

I gave up drinking those fizzy drinks years ago now.

In my late teens when I first started coming off most of the sugar I used to drink cordial instead which is a better option than fizzy drinks but even cordial has aspartame in it, as I later discovered.

The closest to fizzy drinks I have now is Old Jamaica Ginger beer, Fenteman's Dandelion and Burdock or a pint of Guinness :).

I am having a good weekend but my next door neighbour's daughter has just got married and therefore their family and friends are having a BBQ.

It sounds great butte and my family don't like the noise they make. It is bad enough when the neighbour is just having a summers day BBQ but this is a wedding BBQ and more people too.

We are quite a private family and would prefer to be in the country or at least a small village :).

The jury seems to be Out on the effect sugar subitute has on us? I'm diabetic, they say it's ok. So whose right? Just like eggs were suppose to be Bad for us, now they recommend eggs. I've been using sugar subitute for decades, I'm 64, all's Good

In my personal view I would side with the jury.

They say it is ok for us, they are most likely lying through there teeth and they know it. It’s called lobbying. Blatantly lying, not caring about your health, in order to make money.

Well vegans obviously wouldn’t recommend eggs.

Vegans don’t eat eggs as it is from an animal. In other words, your eating a baby chicken in it’s very early stage.

But vegans and science will also tell you that meat and dairy can lead to disease.

I’m not vegan but am a flexitarian who eats more veg than meat and dairy.

But I think if everybody was a vegan then our overall health would improve and I would think that cancer would almost be unheard of.

I was using eggs as an example of things that no one knows for sure if there good for you or not? I say we're grown ups and can make our own decisions good or bad.
