New 'Pre diabetic' Topic section 💚

Hi everyone,

After a recent reply it was noted that there isn't a pre-diabetic forum so as we embrace healthy eating for all dietary needs coupled with the growing number of people being diagnosed with diabetes and more being told that they're pre-diabetic I've created new Topic section 'Pre-diabetic'.

Hoe do I"join" the prediabetic group?

Hi foxglove, I've created this topic section for pre diabetics because there isn't a specific group.

The purpose of a Topic is so that members can ask questions/make posts on here about a subject and as long as they click the pre diabetic Topic, a reference will be built up with all the relevant posts.

So please feel free to post on for all things pre diabetic on here.

Thanks for creating this Jerry, guess it was me that prompted the new topic?

I’ll kick off with some information about me and anyone who wants is very welcome to add their own experience.

I’m female age 54, diagnosed Pre-diabetic in January this year from a fasting blood sugar test. Saw the practice nurse who gave me I think maybe fairly standard advice to lose some weight, avoid added sugars, and avoid “white carbs “. At that point I had 40 lb to lose to a healthy BMI, I’m currently down 18 lb so almost halfway. I’ve struggled with weight loss in the past because I do well for awhile and then just couldn’t keep motivated when some stressful life event got in the way. This time I’m finding it a lot easier to stick to my plan, and there have been some stressful things happen over the last few months but this time I haven’t been derailed. Seems like not wanting full-blown diabetes is the best motivator!

I have a new challenge next week, due to start a two week or more stint of jury service, I’m trying to plan ahead, I’ve bought a family picnic size cool bag so I can take enough food in case I get stuck there for a long time!

Hi Fran, you’re 100% right it was your comment that made me see the need for this so thank you. I think that you have done really well losing 18lb as you know that you can do it now.

We can all be our own worst enemies under stress and it’s learning to deal with it rather than make ourselves suffer more which is all that ‘comfort’ eating achieves. I think that you have hit the nail on the head with the fear of full on diabetes being a big incentive to stay on track.

I’ve done Jury service and it was really interesting as they were a very skilled forger so I was grateful for that and it’s great because when you see people in the local news at the crown court you have an insight into the procedure. So I hope that you have an interesting case and a cool box is a great idea.

You can always tell the judge/court employees that you have to take some breaks because of possible hypoglycemic issues if you aren’t allowed to eat anything. Bring a doctor’s note to prove this information. I’m not allowed to do jury duty because I can’t sit in court for a long period of time. Also, no cellphones are allowed to be on. I use the cellphone for my family to follow my blood sugars with my CGM.
