It has come to our attention that some members join and then immediately start contacting female members, this is not acceptable and any members who do this will be restricted and reported to HU.
All HU platforms are support forums not for meeting the opposite sex, gradually we all make new friends on here and thats how it should be.
If anyone receives a message from a new member out of the blue please report it immediately and we will take action as this will not be tolerated full stop. We protect all of our genuine members unequivocally.
I know why I use HU forums and if you read my post carefully I said we get new members who immediately contact female members by pm's out of the blue, when it is not a dating site and it is upsetting the members concerned.
Members are banned by HU who do this and there's been too much of it recently.
Health Unlocked provide support forums for us and we have a duty of care to our members
The "members near me" bit is useful for support groups. Someone who runs a local thyroid group was able to contact me to tell me about it. I would be nervous about someone who joined and went straight to trying to make private contact and arrange to meet up though...
If you get a message from someone you aren’t expecting to hear from, report it to HU. Click on the Report/... and a copy of the report will be sent to HU.
A member wanted computer assistance… if they had been close I would have offered to meet to help.
Using a laptop or an Internet cafe this need not have been at their home. I have DBS certificates… and have worked with people in the 3 to 95+ age range.
Yes, this is a great site, Jerry. I was precisely telling someone than I have never seen nasty comments neither on this site nor on Future Learn, which is a source of free online short courses for the eternally curious, only heart felt support and politeness. As it should always be. Keep the good work and thank you.
Your post actually alarmed me and made me realize that our “sincere” conversations on HU could be a tool for corrupt individuals to gather information on others and possibly stalk us. Your attention to the safety of the website is commendable but, in the future, I will post very briefly or not at all! Thanks!
I’m new here and just saw this post. GREAT advise Jerry! As a member, I want everyone to be vigilant and stay safe. Use common sense and trust your instincts when deciding to meet someone in person. I hate to say this, not everyone is honest. I know this is obvious but we read all the time about bad things happening to ones who just met someone online.
This forum is super!! And that you for the reminder, Jerry!!
Thank you, Grandpa-Chuckie for saying this about safety issues when on-line. We want everyone to feel welcome and safe on all the groups that HU has for the site. 😀👍
