Advice on using HU forums 🤓

Hi everyone,

Sometimes members make the same post twice and then have to ask how to delete it or post it on the wrong forum by mistake, firstly HU forums are support forums so its not a problem. This is also how to delete edit or report an advert (spam)

At the bottom of published posts it says Reply, Like, More. Click the down arrow by more and you can now edit the post or delete it if its your post or if its an advert or offensive then click 'report' we the admin get the report as do HU and we have to deal with all reports.

Some posts are topical and suitable for more than one forum so why doesn't the facility exist to make simultaneous posts on as many forums as possible? There is a simple answer it would be a dream come true for spammers as they'd hit HU groups simultaneously.

I'll also tell you how HU works, HU collate information anonymously mostly health related (Health Unlocked) And in return 'we' get the forums and we as admin just try to keep the forum spam free and friendly, Leah (Acticty2004) is amazing at catching spammers and keeping HE advert/spam free and keeping me on my toes.

Posts can be locked to keep from non members and is advisable if anyone is giving medical info and their hospital etc as they don't want to be giving away to much personal info. Posting a private email address is not allowed and will be deleted.

However with most posts about healthy eating keeping them unlocked opens them up to the www and will attract people on web searches and I lock very few posts as I see no need. One very important thing to remember with unlocked posts is once you've posted it it's out there and you have no control over it as it can be copied elsewhere, to me this just shows that we have to be mindful of what we say and how we say it so it's not a problem to me.

I think that HU communities are really great and if anyone has any issues about using the forum then please feel free to contact 'us' the Admin by clicking on About:

Home Posts Search Members About Polls at the top of the page and we are listed there with the volunteers.

We're also interested in any ideas members have for Polls Topics etc. And any questions about this then please just ask away.

Jerry 😊

Can I suggest that a "legit" way to cross-post would be for the poster to select a group for the main content, and then in each related group, post a link and a short description?

As well as keeping clutter to a minimum, this would have the (positive) effect of bringing new groups to the attention of people who might not otherwise know about those groups.

Spammers would be automatically screened out because, even if they could be bothered to write a description, it would obviously be a description of spam.

This is an interesting idea. The only thing is, if the person isn't a member already of that certain group, then they may not always want to click on the follow button to read the entire posting.

If something sounded interesting I'd click on the link to read it - as I understand it you don't have to join the "other" forum unless you want to reply?

in reply tocheritorrox

You do if the post is locked chcrritorrox.

That’s right. You can’t reply or post anything in a group unless you join the group.

but you can read it, and other posts too. If they're of interest it's not exactly difficult to join (one click!) then it's in your hub and you can delete it if no longer of interest

PS Copying a link to another post doesn't need intervention from HU! We do it all the time with photos linked to the km & minutes challenges on NHS weight loss

You would have to join the group to read postings if the author of the postings locked the postings on the certain group you aren’t a member of at the time.😀

oh sorry didn't realise which is daft as I always lock my posts!

It’s okay! Not everyone locks the postings. I have locked a few I’ve done here and there.

Hi we post links to other posts and on other forums on here. But no one can make multiple posts simultaneously as that facility doesn’t exist.

And you’re right it is easy to join a group to read a post so locking a post is only part of staying safe.

Yes, the need to join the group isn't much of an impediment. You just press the join button, and if you're not interested in other stuff, you un-join (or whatever the word is) which is equally simple. I've done this on occasion.

If people write the main content of shared posts in such a way that it's summarized in the first 5 lines, people don't even have to join to get the gist of a locked post. Then they don't have to "join" just to find out the article wasn't what they thought it was.

It's a good idea and we will put all good ideas to HU so thanks for the suggestion.
