I'm following the autoimmune paleo diet just now, and working to heal my gut, but I've caught the cold. I'm your pretty typical person who normally takes a lemsip and lockets, but I want to keep on track.
Does anyone have any good cold cures? I'm not a big fan of honey, so honey free would be good!

Hi Cooper27,
Well I'm sorry that you've got a cold, unfortunately we all get colds sometimes and mother natures cure is stay warm and hydrated. Freshly squeezed lemon juice should help as it helps loosen congestion and packs a punch of vitamin D. I like to squeeze a lime as well because lime makes everything come alive its just so tangy, just add the juice to warm water not boiling and enjoy being pampered is my advice...
I also drink a clear soup sometimes made with just boiling water and low salt bouillon and that hits the mark.
I cut ginger root, add lemon juice and turmeric to hot water. It’s meant to have anti-inflammatory properties. I’m having a cold myself and also trying to follow Paleo whereas my husband is following AIP Paleo 🙂 How are you finding the diet?
It's been ok, I've got another 3 weeks to go before I reintroduce foods. I've not cut out nightshades though, I was going to miss them too much. It's just not so fun when you get ill and can't be bothered cooking!
Thanks for the tip I hope your cold passes quickly!
Have you consulted Dr Andy here yet? Just joking. 😁
Sounds fine to me. Refined sugar is what it is. There are people who swear by the advantages of local honey, manuka honey and I suggest molasses as one of the least refined forms of sugar available.
It occurs to me wonder how many sugar canes it would take to make a teaspoon of sugar? And to answer my own question, wholesomesweet.com/faqs/how... says it is a ratio of 10 to 1. So ten pounds of sugar cane becomes one pound of refined sugar.
So assuming you could buy sugar cane then to make the same drink you would need the equivalent of 10 teaspoons, assuming your the sweetness of your tooth means you have 1 teaspoon in the recipe above. But then given the recipe has freshly squeezed lemon, probably those numbers need doubling at least.
