Hi all, New to this forum and wondering if there's any fellow Vegans here? I became Vegan in January after a few years of being Vegetarian and haven't looked back! Hoping to find some folk to share ideas/recipes with....

Hi Sparkin78, and welcome to the HE community , we have vegans and a vegan star so you're in good company on here.

And we have a vegan/vegetarian Topic section as well so I hope that you enjoy being a member of our community.

Jerry 😊

Jerry, can we separate out vegan & vegetarian please as topics. To have them lumped together is not useful, imo.

Hi Andy, in a word yes we can I'll do that later, thanks for the input. It means that some dishes will have to have their topic changed but thats OK. 😊

Indeed I am :)

It sounds like I followed a similar path to you having been vegetarian for a long time before.

Having started as a dietry vegan I'm now getting involved in the ethical side as well - wearing non leather shoes etc.

Welcome to the forum :)

Hi sparkin78, and welcome. I was veggy for 40 years and became vegan around March 2016 for health reasons. And so that means I follow the whole-food plant-based no oils tradition.

For breakfast today I am having an addition to my porridge. Oats, water, turmeric, black pepper... Ground flax seed. The flax seeds are very high in omega-3. Also I have had an under-the-tongue B12 tablet and also a vitamin D3 tablet. Now just going to have a green tea. So lots of anti-oxidants, lots of sustainable energy.

Morning! Sounds good! I’m eating a lot of porridge too on these cold mornings, I use oat milk and top with a flax seed and nut powdered mix and maybe a banana. I’ve heard about benefits of turmeric recently, must start eating more!

I’ve recently started a running programme so my mission at the moment is to find foods good for that, high energy and protein so any ideas on that front would be welcome!

I’m living the Vegan life, i feel like I’m living in line with my values and at the same time benefitting my health and the environment! I also try to avoid Palm oil wherever possible...so many things but we try our best! Have a great day :-)

P.S. What brand vits do you use? I know some are better than others. I use floradix iron supplement but I do need to add B12 daily and also D3, hadn’t really looked at that one til I saw on here yesterday!

I don't take iron tablets. My breakfast includes about 1/2 of my daily iron needs. Some days it has a citric fruit on it such as orange. This increase the bio-availability of iron.
