New here but not at life

I have always had high blood pressure from an early age (18) but I just got on with life like you do, I turned 40 and for some reason needed medical help (tablets) to contain it. This was fine because I went to work and came home and my wife and kids were there so selfishly thought why should I do anything about my condition when my world is ok. August 8th 2017 4 days after our 17th anniversary and 35 years of being together we were told my wife had lung cancer stage 4........ NOW my health matters because I have my wife to help battle through this and get as many years as we can together and 2 kids who need shown life skills, washing, cleaning, cooking and every thing else that makes us who we are, because their mam spoilt them and they know nothing lol. I have high blood pressure and high cholesterol so came here looking for answers or ideas as to how I go about bringing them both down. Oh and I should mention I have a 4 year old little boy who is the pinnacle of the family and keeps us all in check, his name is Marley and he is my best mate and also pictured in this post.

Hi Hidden ,

Welcome to the group. Please feel free to continue to post your postings and comments, read and reply to other member's postings and/or comments, attend the monthly meetings held once a month on a weekend (usually a Saturday), ask questions, take a look at the Topics section for some ideas and information, take the polls listed on the Polls section and of course, meet the other members of the group.

For the high blood pressure issues, have you had a look at the Diabetes and Hypertension Society group on HU? Please go to: healthunlocked.com/diabetes...

You can click on the link and go to the follow group button. When the follow button is clicked, it should have a green check mark and the background should be white. I hope this helps!

Hi!

I'm sorry for your wife but I'm sure that with the right environment and attitude she has a chance to get better! We have to think positive right?

On regarding your high blood pressure and cholesterol, have you tried to change your daily diet?

in reply to

Changing my diet started today and nearly stopped after eating blueberries (yak) but I'm eating more fruit and less chocolate and crisps, my only hmmmm moment is regarding the vegetables you are meant to eat regarding the 5 a day, there is a lot of confusion because not all vegetables are suitable for 5 a day.

in reply to

Good job with the chocolate and the crisps! I'm sure that you'll make the right health choices from now on :D

I completely understand, my mom had the same problem with me when I was little because I didn't like any fruits nor vegetables, and well, that's were food supplements come in and I've been taking them since then. As you said, it's really difficult to eat the 5 a day of fruit and vegetables, sometimes because of the calories and other times because of time (especially in my case).

Well, keep up with your new food habits then! I'm sure you'll make it! :D
