Hello π: Hi there! Hoping to get ideas and... - Healthy Eating
Hello π
Hi nutmeg π. Welcome! You will get lots of ideas and support on here . Hope you enjoy the forum π
Hi Nutmeg. Welcome! I've had a general whole-food diet, organic as much as possible, and also take basic vitamins daily like beta carotene, C, D, and Omega 3s. Doing both seems to help very much. Not sure if you have any specific health issues otherwise (I was susceptible to respiratory like asthma and colds). I do look up natural remedies otherwise. There's also a few basic foods that seem to have a LOT of benefits...apple cider vinegar (raw organic), raw honey, and ceylon cinnamon. They're great to have around and I have them pretty much daily as well. Of course exercise like walking, cycling...etc.
Hello Nutmeg123. Rusti has already given you some good guidance but I would like to add a few words. Firstly get your sugar intake down as low a possible, that is added sugar. Avoid diet drinks as they often contain Aspartame which is worse than a little sugar. Go for whole foods and avoid white flour except for perhaps a treat at the weekend. Bread in particular is your staple but it must be 100% wholemeal and organic if possible. I make all the bread but first I recommend that you read an article at healthscams.org.uk/the-whit... then click the button for the recipe.
The next item we believe in strongly is whole unpasteurised milk; have a look on the Internet for a farm supplier near enough to you. This form of milk will keep well for eight or nine days in a refrigerator at 3Β°C which cannot be said for supermarket milk. Another read: healthscams.org.uk/milk.html.
I don't want to bore you so the last thing I'd say is avoid the polyunsaturated oils and spreads like the plague; saturated fats and butter etc., contain all the good things you need. One more read: healthscams.org.uk/saturate....
Add plenty of fresh vegetables and fruit with a little meat and fish and you won't go far wrong. We are 82 and 86 respectively, we walk twice a week and are not on any regular medication.
Enjoy your meals, we do. Tibbly
Thank you very much for this. I've already cut down on bread. I tend to opt for wraps or flat breads. I haven't got much of a sweet tooth. My main weakness is cheese π I walk a lot too and love it. I appreciate your advice and information x
Hello again Nutmeg123. Bread, as I said is an important part of your daily diet but it MUST be wholemeal and ideally organic. The rubbish in the supermarket, probably made by Allied Bakeries, is not proper bread. You won't be able to eat large quantities of proper wholemeal.
One more point watch out for the "fat free" foods, they are empty. Tibbly
Just a word of caution about cheese. I love the stuff but have had three cholesterol problems over the years and in each case different doctors have told me to cut it out - and my cholesterol dropped again. We are all different of course so it might not affect you but having it tested on a regular basis (twice a year ?) might be a good idea.
i know there is a lot of codswallop talked about cholesterol these days. I remember the time when the general public had never even heard of it. And i know the pharmaceutical companies are very keen to push it to sell their drugs. But general overall medical opinion now seems to be that it is better kept low - hence my three diagnoses over the years. I don't take any medication for it but those doctors advice did work for me.
Welcome to the forum :)! In addition to the ideas on healthy eating that others mentioned above, I would also recommending cooking for yourself and bringing your own snacks to work as much as possible, that way you have more control over your portion sizes and what you want to incorporate into your diet. Plus, you'll avoid making impulse purchases on less healthy foods while saving some money.
