I've just joined the community and thought I'd introduce myself. I am not adverse to a spot of walking having covered some long distances but to get to those long distances I find the best thing for me is shorter, consistent walks. Whilst out on those walks I'm often befuddled at the lack of people embracing the countryside. It's a doubled edged sword, part of me wants more people 'out there' but another part of me is very glad of the solitude and chance to be alone with nature. It still confuses me why more people are not on the trails.
Having posed this connumdorum to a number of people I think it is clear that some people simply do not know what it would be like to walk in the countryside (one person I spoke to about the countryside is a city dweller. He thought we only had mud tracks everywhere). With this in mind I've embarked on a YouTube channel to, hopefully, give people a taste of the great outdoors.
I was not really a walker until 2011 when a number of things conspired in my life at the same time. Big things. Those things were the the catalyst for me packing a backpack, travelling to lands end, then setting off (and completing) a hike to John O'groats. Those 'things' were put into perspective and the experience has changed my life for the better.
Whilst nothing has ever quite scratched that long distance itch, I can say that having walking in my life has only made it better. I want to share that with people and hopefully encourage people to get out there and get amongst it!
