Hi. I am new but am so excited to be here. I have PTSD. I try a lot to handle my day to day. I need help getting back into society and interacting with people. I feel really comfortable in my home environment with my dog. If anyone has any suggestions, I would take them. I would also take sleep strategies. Thanks!

Welcome RoxyKind

You have come to a very safe and supportive community. I'm glad you found us.

I got such a warm feeling reading about your safety at home with your dog. I understand that comfort and security very well.

When I decided I needed to get more social I started slowly... one friend, one outing and kept it brief. I only went out with people that knew me well. This gave me the " escape" route if I felt I needed to leave. They understood and had no hard feelings. As I got more daring I joined small groups and always had a back out plan. I never went in someone else's car. I wanted to know I wasn't stuck anywhere. Things got easier with time. I can do social things now but honestly I would just rather be at home.

Sleep was a tough one for me. It took me a very long time to get sleep. My sleep pattern is crazy now but at least I get enough to function. Listening to meditation was the key to my success.

Please stay strong.

Hello Roxy, welcome to the group, glad things are going well for you. Nothing like the love of a dog to make us better humans.

Just wanted to say hello. I have not been on here in a little while. This group has provided me with lots if helpful comments! 😃

As far as re-entering society goes, I would suggest thinking about what you like to do, your interests, and trying to get involved in a group situation where those interests are happening. Ideas:art class, exercise class, team sport, an academic class... The goal does not necessarily need to be to "make friends" b ut to be around people.

I am glad you are here. Welcome! 💚

You are so right on that. "Making friends" seems like too much pressure. It just seems that when I am in society at parties or events, I don't feel like I fit in. Everyone is laughing and talking and look great. I wear clothes big. Some people ask me why. I feel like I am looking in a window but I am outside. I don't know. Thank you for your help. You are so right about that. I think a library and women's gym first.

Hi RoxyKind,

Welcome...

I think taking small steps like already suggested, would mean that you don't get overwhelmed. Taking rest days between social events/meetings/activities would allow for some recovery.

I hope that finding interest groups might bring some ideas as to what is available in your area. Wishing you lots of success and courage...
