This is very imbarrasing to ask, I have had a change of anti depressants and I seem to be wetting the bed every night.

It doesn't show as one of the side affects, is there any possibility that it can be anything else. I don't believe it to be from brain injury as this only seems to be since changing medication. Any one else ever went through this ??

answered your own question there got to doctors and tell him/ her whats up

sip less fluid before bed /tea coffe are diretic and make you want to go more

hope all goes well and you manage to get some control over this

It's not your fault, it's something chemically related, either it's a side-effect of the new anti-depressant or it's because you're low on the level of neurotransmitters you've come to rely on the anti-depressants giving you.

I know that a particular anti-depressant (amitriptyline) is effective in treating this problem so, it could be that changing yours has triggered this unfortunate response. Have you seen your GP about it ? You may find there are a variety of treatments available.

I had a SAH last December and changed from paroxetine to sertraline and back again. For the first few months getting to the loo immediately was essential (I was told to expect this by nursing staff) but no problems at night.

Hope you find a solution, It's a big nuisance for you, Best wishes x

My brain injury resulted from a tumour and for a long time I suffered from incontinence as a result of the tumour. I still have to ensure I am careful to go to the toilet before going for walks, catching the bus etc or I can still have an accident. I have never discussed this with my GP so I am just guessing but it is as if that part of my brain has suffered some damage and now doesn't work as effectively. Don't really have any advice for you but just wanted to let you know you are not alone in this

Hi Onceaborderer,

Just to support what other members have said, continence issues are common after brain injury, and can sometimes be aggravated by various medications.

Do have a chat to your GP about it - they may be able to solve it easily by tweaking your medication dose, and if not there are some excellent treatments available nowadays. Most areas have a specialist continence advisory service that can help you to manage this - your GP could make a referral if necessary.

I'm sure there will be a solution with the right support, and the Bladder and Bowel Foundation have some excellent information too ( bladderandbowelfoundation.o... ).

Best wishes,

Headway.

Thank you, I don't really understand what is going on, I wet my pants but not the bed as such. Normaly if I wet the bed I would wake up during this and I would have soaked the bed, but now my underwear are wet/damp and the smell is so strong but I dont feel it happening and the bed is dry.

I have a similar problem, I sometimes have trouble controlling when i'm desperate so that I piss myself before I point it south. I'm not usually that desperate in reality but I just FEEL desperate. I think it's the neurotransmitters being out of balance personally.

I know that feeling lol, I am the same these days when I need a number 2, you have to laugh though. My pants are around my ankles before I get to the toilet some times. If I saw someone looking like I do on occasions I would laugh at them. If you don't laugh at yourself then who do you laugh at.
