Hearing Loss: Hi everyone - I had m SAH a year ago... - Headway
Hearing Loss
Hi!
I had Meningitis, leading to a Stroke back in 2007, I spent a year in Hospital, they told my Family I woul die, in tne Scanner at the Q.E. Hopital in Birmingham, I stopped Breathing Luckily the Crash got me back!!
Now I can't swallow, so they have fitted me witha P.E.G. so that I can take Feed & Water & am Deaf in one ear with tinnitus!
So, I have joined the local Tinnitus Society!
Take Care! :0)
I had surgery for a brain tumour which was situated in the brain stem so they went in through my right ear canal. They told me I would lose the hearing in that ear so I was prepared for that. What I was not prepared for was the tinitus. It drives me mad and makes it really hard to hear in noisy locations. It can be very frustrating for my partner when he has to constantly repeat himself. And very confusing when people approach me from that side as I also have problems with the sight in that eye. I just joke and tell people that they are on my blind and deaf side and get them to sit/walk/stand on the other side. Mopst people that know me now do it automatically
Thank you, nice to know I'm not the only one!
The tinnitus does drive me mad sometimes - the more tired I get the more it buzzes it seems!
I'm going to try a hearing aid next month which may help both problems
Take care x
I already death had severe brain injury but when I woke up from coma I said I'd lost more hearing but to audiology my hearing is still the same but I still persist to date I have lost although the machines say I havnt
i had my accident 3 years ago, badly fractured my left ear canal amongst other things, so yes have bad hearing on one side and the constant ringing. had some metal work added a while bad which stopped the pain and stablised things, bit didn't stop the ringing. i found myself getting used to the tinnitus over time.
i have been told that the brain makes the noise
