Hello everyone,

I need everyones help i have recently started my own painting business since having my TBI and im wanting to keep a portion of each painting sold to donate packs to people in need.

What was the one piece of information you would give to someone coming out of hospital after a TBI e.g your first sneeze hurts like hell...

What piece of equipment etc was most usefull for you e.g ear plugs, eye mask etc.

Any help would be much appreciated if any one would like to check or follow my art journey please check me out on instagram @paintingsotago

Many thanks for all your help and support :)

I would say, you need to be prepared to give your recovery time. Try not to get frustrated if things don't fall into place in the first few months. For some it takes a few years.

As for equipment I'd say a walking pole has been invaluable to me - but that's cos I suffer balance issues. Its gonna be different for everyone probably.

Thank you @Icd8 I had issues with my balance and vertigo too an completely forgot that I used a walking frame in the first couple of months of recovery. Thank you so much for this advice I'll add it to our list. Keep an eye on my Instagram page @paintingsotago as I will upload and photo of the packs once I have the first ones completed.

Many thanks for your support πŸ™‚πŸ’™πŸ©΅

Hi Kolez - here in the UK it would be useful if A&E offered eyemasks to those with suspected concussion. Lying on a trolley beneath blazing lights is no fun.

Sunglasses on the hospital wards ditto.

Probably different in NZ.

Coming out of hospital, in my case it was a folding stick, because of the dizziness.

But most of all it's nothing material, it's understanding from others that helps, don't you find?

Thank you Graceissufficient I had issues with the lighting too it was way to bright and overloaded my senses. I have brought a pair of sleeping/eye mask for each pack with some ear buds to help block out noise.Thank you so much for this advice I'll add it to our list. Keep an eye on my Instagram page @paintingsotago as I will upload and photo of the packs once I have the first ones completed.

The one thing which helped me, when i got to know about it, was earplugs. Now I use them whenever noises in public places get too loud for me - recently, an alarm went off in a supermarket - and i was the most distressed person until I found my earplugs.

Its good that you are asking the question. it took a while for me to even get here.

Writeronstack definitely agree! I'm glad I've purchased ear buds for each pack. The noise is still overwhelming and I've been recovering for just over a year now. You are 100% right there is no support and even finding a forum like this chat was difficult for me As well so I am hoping to make life a little bit easier for individuals. Thank you so much for this advice I'll add it to our list. Keep an eye on my Instagram page @paintingsotago as I will upload and photo of the packs once I have the first ones completed.

Many thanks for your support πŸ™‚πŸ’™πŸ©΅
